Hi all after being diagnosed back on the 17th July I went for my review today for my test after 7 weeks of being on Metformin 2 x 500mg morning and 2 x 500mg tea time and Glimepride 1 x 2 mg ( was reduced to 1 x 1mg last Friday) so the results were:

17th July
HbA1c = 117 mmol/mol =12.9%

Serum Cholesterol
Total 6.4 mmol/L

06th September

HbA1c = 62 mmol/mol =7.8%

Serum Cholesterol
Total 2.6 mmol/L

Doctor was well impressed so much so that I have now been taken off the Gilmepride completely and she will review how I progress with a view to reducing the Metformin, and told to carry on what I'm doing.

On another note the weight is still coming off albeit a bit slower now and this I would like to say is down to the "modified" Low carb diet ( I have a sin day when out with my lad every second weekend and I have some chips with my chicken fillets :))

Big thanks to the following for being blunt, truthful, helpful and kind for all the advice given in my last couple of post

@Kristin251 - I Didn't wait to go on the low carb diet and the results show

@Bluetit1802 - The diary worked

@SockFiddler - Being truthful and blunt at the same time I now fully "engage my diabetes"

and all the rest for the recipes and advice given.

now for the next 7 weeks

Well done! That is excellent. Next one will be even lower :)

Just a word of caution ..... are you taking statins? Your total cholesterol is a bit too low.
Do you know the full breakdown? If not, I recommend you ask for a print out of the test results so you can analyse them for yourself (and ask on here if you don't understand). You may also find your test results are on-line but you would have to ask about this and how to register for it. The total is just that - a total of the good and the bad. You need to know what is what.

Well done, great job. All the hard work is certainly worth it so keep it up, you're doing great.

@Bluetit1802

Yeap I am on Statins and that is why im having another blood test in three weeks to see if that can get reduced as well.

as for the break down once again I forgot to take that bit of info down but am going back in to get them

That's good. Do get the full print out. It isn't just blood glucose and cholesterol we need to know, it is all the other important stuff like kidney and liver functions, which are extremely important for us. We need to know if we are improving or deteriorating in these markers so we can attempt to do something about it.

@Bluetit1802

My kidney and liver functions were good the doc did not give me a figure/number/percentage for these.
The only bad point was my thyroid reading was high, I also take thyroxin and was advised to stop these last Friday but today the dosage was also reduced. this is also another reason why I'm getting bloods taken in three weeks

Good news your kidneys and liver are doing well. You clearly trust your doctor to tell the whole truth. Many don't notice any deterioration if you are still within normal range. Trust us though ... you need those print outs and the figures on every test you have, and you will be having a lot of tests now, for the rest of your life.

You need to be careful with the thyroid medication - there is the possibility that the results are skewed by the medication for diabetes and you could be put on a lower dose in error. If you have been steady on one amount of Thyroxine for some time I'd question if you need to have it altered.

Metformin affects the thyroid stimulating hormon so it looks like one gets too much thyroid hormon while that is in fact not true , inform your GP of that because your diabetes also can end up worse if you are on a too low dose

POW, that's fantastic. Stay strong, you have got this
