Morning hangover feeling

Just curios if anyone else gets like this:
I have been type 1 for a few months.
I have managed to get my sugars to stay predominately between 5-8
With the occasional misjudged hypo or slight high.

Generally I feel okay, always quite tired but don't know if that's the diabetes or just me in general.

Every morning for the past 2 months when I wake up I feel like I have got a stinking hangover for the first couple of hours in the morning.

I usually wake up with my sugars at around 6, and don't have night time hypos.

Just wondering if this is a common feeling before I go and bother the doctors with silly things.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

I'd do some bg tests through the night just to make sure your bg isn't dipping low in the early hours, a hypo in the night can leave you tired and feeling like your recovering from a hangover the next morning.

@Bennett1211 - I'd have to agree with @noblehead - the non-drinking hangover for me is a surefire indicator of a low, and possibly quite a prolonged one, during the night. I'd second getting up every two hours in the night to test - choose a night and just do it, or purchasing a Freestyle Libre sensor for £49 and using it for two weeks with your phone to fine tune what's going on.

I would guess your blood sugars are dropping in the night and your having a hypo.

Maybe set your alarm for 2am and check to see how you're doing :)

Sometimes you can hypo and not realise it, for me a huge headache is my main indicator. When I wake afterwards my sugars are always in range. I know I've hypo'd though xx

Only things I can think of are:
Hypo (since starting Libre I've seen a couple where I was only low for about 30mins and slept right through - would be hard to catch with strip tests)
Then maybe:
Dehydration/overheating
Neck pain can manifest as headache
Sleep apnea maybe? (Reduced oxygen, poor quality sleep)

Thank you. I will set an alarm every few hours through the night tonight and see what my BG is at.
I have had hypo during the night before and wake up with it.
Just find it strange that my levels are always fine when I wake up in the morning and check them.
I wouldn't mind feeling hungover if I had actually enjoyed copious amounts of alcohol the night before but hangover without the alcohol is no fun!!
Thank you all for you suggestion!

Haha!! I know, I havnt been obscenely drunk since being diagnosed!

As with the person above, since using the libre i can see that I drop more in the night than I could have ever anticipated but when I wake up my sugars are still within range. Its weird! but for whatever reason my body does what it needs to! When I have a hypo I can't snap out of ive so far always woken up. I definitely think that by eating a whole grain or low GI snack before bed that this combats my lows :)

I just found this after reading another thread, I don't know if it helps to explain more normal readings when you wake up:

"The dawn phenomenon is a natural rise in blood glucose between 4 and 8 a.m., which happens because of hormonal changes in the body. All people have the “dawn phenomenon,” whether they have diabetes or not. People without diabetes would never notice it happening, as a normal body's insulin response adjusts for this."

And 6am it was still 7.0.
And now it is at6.8.

@Bennett1211 I'd still check again for a few more nights to be sure, sometimes i don't wake during a nigh time hypo but feel this way in the morning - also speak to your GP to rule out any other possible medical conditions too.

Hi!

I'm sure I have exactly what you're having. In the past having a heavy night meant I was waking up early shaking and feeling rough as hell.

The past 6 months I have been feeling like that every single morning and I was diagnosed with T1 roughly a month ago. I have been reading my bloods for 3 months and they're always above 8 in the morning, but yet I feel horrendous. Seems to be fine at 8 all other times during the day.
