Hey there guys!! My name is Sharon and I'm 65 years old. I have type two diabetes with all of the complications associated with it, diabetic neuropathy. I'm on Metformin twice a day, lingaliptin and insulin twice daily. I'm post menopausal and have been gaining considerable weight over time past year or so. I've spoken to a friend and she said that she's been put on to Mounjarah injections and she's lost nearly 40lbs since January this year. Has anyone else been on these injections and if so, how is it?? I currently weigh 100kg and am only 5'2", so I'm very much overweight. I'm disabled and a wheelchair user. Spinal issues as well as fibromyalgia, so losing weight is definitely something I need to do. Please let me know how I should proceed. Via GP?? Or a weight management program?? I've absolutely no clue!! Many thanks x

Hi Sharon, all I would say is speak to your GP about it rather than a weightloss program because of your medical history. Mounjaro can have different effects on people with diabetes than people without :)

I caught the end of a programme last night on ITV at 8.30 (think it was the Tonight programme?) about the unscrupulous sales of the weight loss drugs and how people are being conned, made seriously ill with these medications being sold without any medical checks, contents not what they say they are etc, there was one lady who collapsed a few minutes after injecting and when the peeled the label back she’d been sold insulin that they’d relabelled, if she’d been on her own she’d have died.

So yes go to your GP. There are some legitimate clinics who are selling privately but they will do full medical checks and contact your GP before letting you buy, but they won’t sell to anyone that’s diabetic so there’s no real legitimate safe route to go down other than your GP.

There has just been a warning on the BBC Con or Cure programme this morning about making sure you only get Mounjaro and the like on prescription. Not to buy it on line without a prescription.

I'd agree it's best to go to your gp, but I know someone who bought it privately without a prescription, full medical checks done, gp contacted etc, but they are diabetic and had no problems getting it @lovinglife

Perhaps because they had the backing of their GP, as long as it’s a reputable company who do all the checks and contact the GP then it’s most probably safe I agree

I have a friend who tried several reputable companies who wouldn’t touch her because she was diabetic, she now gets it through the GP as it helped her case that she couldn’t get it private ( she didn’t quite fit the criteria with her BMI) she’s doing well on it.

I also know a couple of people who are getting it private locally not diabetic, no medical checks or GP checks just private prescription, I’m not suggesting that the place they are getting it isn’t genuine and there’s anything untoward but it’s scary that they can get it without medical back up. One of them is only a bit overweight too.
