Mounjaro advice please

Hi

Ive been on Mounjaro 2.5mg for about 5 months, I started out with Hba1c of 77 and weight of 20 stone 10, I am now 18 stone 7 and my Hba1c is 40.
My nurse has just made an appointment for the end of January to bring me off Mounjaro.

I understand the correlation between my weight, which I struggle with badly and have done for many years, and my Hba1c, and after trying several different drugs, Semaglutide tablets never worked for me and Canigliflozin gave me terrible side effects, Mounjaro has changed my life, I am able to eat better and my glucose control is very good.

I am worried my Hba1c and weight will escalate if they take me off it. I suffer from EUPD, PTSD, Anxiety and Depression too.
I know I am only on a low dose but my anxiety is raging, I dont want to go back to how I was before.

Any advice?

What was your HbA1c before the Mounjaro? If it was high & was one of the reasons along with your weight that you were prescribed Mounjaro. In your shoes I would be arguing strongly that the reason your HbA1c is improved & your weight loss is because you are on the jabs & for continued success you need to remain on it.

I know quite a few people both diabetic & those without diabetes that have taken it just for weight loss, (prescribed & privately funded) as soon as they stopped taking it they gained weight & those with T2 their HbA1c rose

I would strongly argue that I still qualified for Mounjaro. Bullet point two on the public info page of the link @lovinglife posted reads:

• they have a body mass index (BMI) of 35 kg/m2 or more, and specific psychological or other medical problems associated with obesity

That sums up your situation as I read it.

I luckily tolerate oral semaglutide and despite getting my weight down to very nearly a normal BMI and keeping my HbA1c normal, I have been allowed to stay on the medication. They did suggest stopping it but I argued “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”!

Thank you for your advice, my Hba1c was 77 before mounjaro, and fluctuated up to as high as 90 on occasion. I would never have considered it for just weight loss, that was always a pleasant side effect in my mind.
