Hi Guys and Gals
Thanks for great forums. all your time and efforts are appreciated. :D

Question is, I am switching and have been told that I should be byetta free for two weeks before starting on victoza

1, is this period essential? :?:
2, Any ideas on keeping my sugars ok during this period, I take 4, 500 metformin a day.

Thanks, any other suggestions welcome.

Have bumped your post up in the hope that someone will answer. Know very little about byetta and victoza.

Hi
Thanks for that

I have been reading forums and lots of peeps have changed as in my question, I suppose none have read my question yet.

I have been told, by another convert, it is 2 weeks I started this yesterday, got plenty of time for someone here to advise

Thanks

People who are touchy.......feign indignation at the slightest thing. Hypocrites, bullies and cowards.
The period between the changeover is essential otherwise any residue of the previous drug can interact with the new one. Something you don't need !

As for controlling your Bg levels during the changeover you will probably be better off strictly restricting you carb intake during that period. That plus some exercise should make sure your levels don't rocket.

Thx Ken, but as you see from my first post only a person I know said 2 weeks not a doctor, hence, my question.

If other people have moved from byetta (which plenty here have) I am asking what was there time period given by there doctor?

Ken, did you abstain for 7 days, 8 days, 10 days 12 days or 14 days? of course I am assuming you have switched?,,,thx

I read your first post in this thread and it just states that 'you were told'........ Not who by. :?

That is the point.....nobody here can tell you what period of time should elapse other than your own GP/Consultant. What happened to somebody else is immaterial. It may give you an idea, but that is not 'carved in stone.'

Only your HCP team knows YOUR medical history and what is best for YOU. You should discuss this with your GP or other HCP.

I have never switched to Victoza, Byetta works well for me so I have no reason to.

Hi I changed from Byetta to Victoza but neither the doc nor consultant said anything about a change over period. I didnt have any issues but that's not to say someone else might. I have found that I get more up to date information from the things I read about on this forum. After an appointment with either doc or consultant I always come back home log on and ask what everyone else thinks. There's always someone else who has advice etc. I then email my Diabetic Nurse and run it by her as well.

Thx, and glad it suits you.

I have been told by another friend 10 to 12 days. (he has the same Nurse, same hospital)

Needed some input because nurse on hols until next Mon, I thought it was pointless waiting until she got back and then having too wait from then? My GP gave me the changeover prescription but the Diabetic specialist had advised it.

Thanks everyone.
