Hello there. For the past 3 months or so I've been having instant porridge every morning with cocoa powder, cinnamon and sweetener. I usually make it with mostly milk and a little water, but sometimes go half and half if it's my time of the month. But I've grown bored with it. I am a type 1 on insulin, but I like to eat lowish carb (or at least low GI) so I don't have to take too much insulin, as it's expensive here. I'd like to stay on a similar dose. (18 - 19 units of Humulin M3 in the morning, 6-8 at dinner). I'm also busy with housework a lot and don't have time for dedicated exercise.

I usually crave something sweet in the morning, so toast is out of the question. The thing I am confused about is the Muesli I bought yesterday.

I live in the Netherlands, so I'm not sure if anyone has heard of the brand "Euroshopper". I bought crunchy muesli since I hate regular kind. It's like clusters of muesli with raisins in it. It was 1 euro haha. Anyway! I bought it because it says only 20g carbs per 30g serving and 6g of sugar. I hate raisins so I picked them out, so surely that lowers the sugar content? The thing is, the whole pack is 1kg, and one small bowl of cereal took out a decent chunk of the packaging. So is the 30g "portion" on the pack including milk? There is NO WAY you could get 15+ small bowls out of the whole bag of Muesli. I'm not great at maths when I've just woken up, but wouldn't 1kg mean roughly 25 portions of 30g?

I'm just a bit worried that my "small bowl" was actually like 80g of the stuff. But I made sure to make a small bowl because of this reason. Maybe I misjudge the size of the bag, haha.

30g is actually not very much, less than a cup. The only way you will know for sure is the weigh it. When I was doing slimming world I weighed my bran flakes - 30g was a tiny amount, hardly worth eating.

Nah, I'm not going to weigh it. I will just test later and find out whether it's fatal or not. I usually have a biiiiiig ol' bowl of oatmeal which is probably a good 50 - 60g of carbs including the milk, so I'm confident it will be okay.

Welp, just tested 2-3 hours after eating it. I'm at a whopping 13 mmol/l. Not good. I'm kind of angry at this, actually. I ate less carbs than I usually do for breakfast. Now I have to waste more insulin to correct my level - and I'm hungry.

I swear my dose is going up by 1 unit a month.

Hi. My wife makes up muesli from oats, seeds, raisins etc and NO added sugar. Yes, the crunchy muesli in the shops is nice but does have added sugar to glue it all together (!). I personally would stay well clear of it.

Yeah, I'm going to! I was munching on it last night on the way home from buying it and my blood sugar was fine, though.

It's stupid. I can eat chocolate and ice cream with no spikes, but muesli with not much sugar does this?

Now I think I overdid it trying to lower my blood sugar again. I took a few more units of insulin, and went out into the apartment complex and ran up and down the stairs for 10 minutes or so. (11 floors, so about 22 flights of stairs). I tested again about 30 mins after this and drinking lots of water.. it's dropped to 5 already and now I feel dizzy. Oh dear. :(

correct, 30 grammes is a very small portion... you will be very sad when you weigh it out and discover just exactly what they consider a "standard" portion to be... barely 2 desert spoonfuls...
