I have just woken up to do a pee and get a drink from this I knew to test my blood.. It is hi so I checked my ketone via blood they are 0.4 what should I do I am on mixed insulin with I hate so not sure to take some as it's novomix 30...i haven't done anything different today as any other day for it to be high but my benefits have been stopped so I don't have any heating and it is -1 here could this play a part

Get professional help. NOW. Don't rely on the forum. You need something quicker than that with ketones present. You need insulin. Preferably fast acting insulin, in the absence of that, Novomix. Keep a close eye on the blood sugars, every hour or so.

With Novomix, the short acting component will help the immediate problem, but then the longer acting component will need managing with something to eat when your blood sugars drop below 4mmol/l.

If you haven't contacted 111 please get hold of your health care team this morning.

0.4 ketones isn't outrageously high but the fact you are high is a concern.

We don't know any thing about your regime or foods ate etc from the information given so thats why we have to point you back in the direction of your healthcare advisers. Please let us know how you get on.

Hey I done 30 units and then I went into hypo after I feel back asleep now it's shot away up to hi with 1.8 ketone I don't know what is causing this because all I have had was dinner wich was a chicken burger with salad

@dmcx3x Sounds like there might be some sort of underlying problem maybe an infection i suggest getting medical help as soon as possible , mine was doing this going from HI (which is of the scale high) and then dipping to hypo but i was coming down with Flu which was causing this

It needs care, attention and skills to manage this. Get some advice. Call 111. You'll never fathom it out whizzing back and forth between hyper and hypo. Get help.

What are you having when you are hypo, as this maybe impacting for you to go back hi again.

You really need to speak to your health team as well.

It's an extraordinary slow transition between high and low though, looking at the time of your messages @dmc3x. Hi at 2am, falling to hypo at 9pm. Astonishing. My blood sugar starts to fall well in an hour at 20mmol/l after
some insulin, & stabilises at about 3-4 hours (with careful monitoring). Everything is back to normal after 5 hours.
Yours appears to take 19 hours to drop, whereupon you're feeling well enough to eat a chicken burger whereupon it zooms back up to ketone territory in what, a couple of hours? Incredible.
I'd get to your specialists, something exceedingly special is going on.

Can i just say my kentones have been 0.4 before and thats not 'outrageous' that just means your body needs more insulin to fit off the keotnes. Definatly ring your health care like GP or NHS 111 but Hospitals dont count DKA until its at least 2.. well mine doesnt anyway..

@dmcx3x

What are you doing about seeing your health team?

You haven't responded to how you are treating hypo's and what with?

You said this in a previous post

"I am 22 and type 1 for 14 years i have been in icu 5times this year with dka and have neuropathy but thats my own fault as i just cant be botherd with it anymore and want to be normal"

Sounds to me as if you just don't actually care. So its hard for anybody else to care to be honest.

Life isn't about sympathy towards those people that don't give a ****. 5 times in ICU ??

Do you really want help now?

I think @donnellysdogs missed the decimal point..normal [non diet/starvation] ketones is under 0.6..so 0.4 is considered fine

Sorry Jack412.. I meant that blood tests are going high is a concern. I should have actually said 0.4 is normal.

"0.4 ketones isn't outrageously high but the fact you are high is a concern." -wrongly phrased.

What worries me is that she says she's been DKA 5 times previously. She knows highs are wrong and to look for ketones but still from other postings she's made that she doesn't appear to really give two hoots to stabilise her bloods...

@donnellysdogs .. looks like my brain needs a proof reader . I read it wrong too :)

IMO..diabetic care is about emotional state as much as BG..if your heads not in the game and there are lot's of reasons why it's not..getting good stable BG isn't going to happen and it's management by crisis

It's like painting a wall, bit of care preparation and attention works wonders. You can do it without, but it never looks good or works well. I get criticised for flying my diabetes like a fighter jet, quickly correcting and eating as I wish, but my DSN likes it to be more like flying a Jumbo, slow steady & predictable with extraordinary efficiency. I find that's a pretty boring rule-bound life, but that's just me ;-)

Oh yeah, and fighter jets fly like a brick when something goes wrong. Jumbos glide nicely when there's a system failure somewhere. I know, I know.
