My blood sugar level starts to increase religiously every day at 3am, why?

I am really puzzled. The blood glucose level pictured below is the trend.

Every morning between 3 am and 7 am (when I think am sound asleep) my blood glucose level starts to gradually rise. Perhaps I am sleep walking and raiding the refrigerator?

Has anyone else seen this or knows the reason why?

When I wake up the level leaps upward and I know why - my brain tells my liver "hey, he's awake, release some energy to get him going".

Dawn phenomenon - its your body getting ready for the day before you wake up - mine does exactly the same (ie starts heading up at about 3am ish), I'm a Type 1 though and ended up with much higher numbers by the time I woke up as my dawn phenomenon is very aggressive.

If you do a search on dawn phenomenon in these forums there are probably lots of threads, some of which may have some good advice how to help combat it - nothing suggested helped me but it may help you (it was how I managed to get a pump as thats the only thing that can deal with it for me)

That's very helpful. Thanks.

Very useful info , I am sure the dawn phenomenon affects all diabetics, probably not the same on everyone. Effects on my FBG are not that severe.

The dawn phenomenon affects EVERYBODY, however as diabetics our sugar regulation system is out of whack. Hence it is a problem, dependent on just how ineffective our regulation is.
