Good morning all,
I'm especially happy to join this forum. Just last week, I have been diagnosed of type 2. I was really devastated specially that i'm still in college. I went to the doctor and he prescribed Galvus Met for me. I also include dieting and exercise and within 3 days my fasting was 5.5mml. Do u think I should stop taking the drug and concentrate on dieting and exercise because it's very expensive for me.

Welcome @Jibril
We can't advise on medication, the decision to alter or stop medication is for you and your doctor to decide.
Many of us have managed to reduce or stop using drugs to control our blood sugar by cutting out as many carbohydrates as possible and increasing our exercise.
Congratulations for being pro active and changing your diet

Hi @Jibril and welcome to the forum.

As has been said, we can't give medical advice, but we can share our experiences which tend to vary a fair bit because T2D is very individual. You should always talk to your GP before taking decisions about your medication, but it's often best to arm yourself with some knowledge first.

There are many Type2 diabetics who are in remission and did that without much (if any) medication. You are taking Galvis Met which is a combination of Metformin with Vildagliptin. While it's easy to come off Metformin. which has much smaller effect on Blood Glucose than does what you eat, that is not the case for ...gliptins because they directly lower Blood Glucose making it possible to get hypoglycemia unless it isn't boosted by eating 'enough carbs to match the effect of the...glyptin. This is unfortunate since most T2D's stay in remission by limiting the total carbohydrates they eat each day - in my case down to only between 20gms and 40gms of carbs per day!

There are generally 2 possible dosages of Galvus Met (either 1 or 2 tablets per day = 50mg or 100mg of Vildgliptin per day), so if you are on 2 per day then it may be possible to reduce carbohydrates slowly and reduce the Galvus Met in 2 stages to match it.

That's very helpful
