I am 69 and have had Type 2 diabetes for over 14 years which i have been managing satificationary without any support from my doctor. Throughout those years i have gone through several doctors because of the lack of support i have recieved from then. Having taken care of myself , my doctor feels now he wants to intervene. He has causes so much problems and convieniences in his plight to bully me into attending the diabetes clinic. He has even stopped my medication for 3 months . He recently wrote me a letter to advise that i see his nurse. I also suffer from high blood pressure and i feel that due to the several lack of support and vandictiveness of his actions , i feel his staff will exercise the same ethos, so i have refused to go . I am concerned that he will stop my blood presssure medications as well as my diabetic medications. I dont want to have to complain due to maybe it continute to making things worse for me and as i have changed doctors so many times, i fear i will not find any other , but i would appreciate any advice i can get

You need to be reviewed by your GP or nurse because your GP is not legally allowed to prescribe without seeing you. He has to cover his own back.
You do not have to attend a diabetes clinic, I just fill in a disclaimer saying I do not wish to have a review with the practice nurse. (She can go practice on someone else)

Thank you very much for that information CarnsRook.. I was not aware that i had that option whereby i can fill out the disclaimer.. ..

Yes you can refuse to see the nurse, but you never know the nurse may have some goodies for you or some up to date info that might be helpful. You don't have to do as she says. My GP has the disclaimer so he or the practice can still claim funding for having me on his books :) So I sign and don't bother to go.

CarbsRok, You have a breathe of Fresh air, you cannot comprehend how this is a relief for me to actually have my control , my rights back because this has been playing on my mind for weeks. Thank you ever so much CarbsRok

Hi again Carbs, I am afraid that my doctor may not give me the disclaimer form. Will i be able to obtain this from NHS or other resources?

Your more than welcome :)
Have you actually asked why your meds were stopped? Any chance it is an error and needs rectifying?

He stopped it because he was just being vandictive because he wanted to pressure me into attending diabetic clinic. I had been going once a year at the hospital but because he wanted me to attend his , he decided to be nasty about it

Then contact your hospital clinic and ask what you need to do as you have no meds. If what you are saying is correct then your GP is in breach of his duty of care to you.
The disclaimer I had was directly from my GP surgery. I see my GP for a med review and anything diabetes related if need be. I avoid the practice nurse like the plague.

Again GP's get psid by the amount of reviews they do... And like carbsrok
says if they an get disclaimers by Patients this is still giving them funding for their targets.

If ur GP doesn't give you a disclaimer it maybe because he hasn't signed up to the QOF Pay targetted funding.

The disclaimer should be produced by the Practice... However, I am just wondering if a Patient could actually draft up their own disclaime to give to a GP?

Is it a big deal just to go to the GP clinic nurse appointment? I just see it as an extra set of checks, extra Hba1c and kidney function tests that can't hurt and might pick something up early. Also the nurse checks my feet which the hospital never do. That alone is worth going to the GP clinic once a year.

Thats how I see it totally.. If 2 nhs sets of people want to check me-great!! Probably why I haven't got complications because I always go for my reviews...
