last night I was overwhelmed with pangs of wanting an Indian - so I did in Brick Lane.

Poppadoms with all the sauces
plus my half share of :

spinach dal,
lamb passanda ( made with cream and almonds)
mutter paneer ( cheese and peas)
cucumber raita ( yoghurt)
lamb rogan josh. ( tomatoes and oil)

No rice but enough calories to sink a battle ship . Probably at least 1800 I'm a kilo heavier today ....
BUT from a starting point of 4.9 - the initial sugar spike peaked at 7. 2 45 minutes later after 90 minutes back to 6.1 , the later protein spike peaked at 7.6 and so far the morning liver dump also seems to have topped out at 7.6 too -

My none diabetic friend accompanied me - she has also been low carbing . We both measured blood sugars together after 90 minutes - she was at 7.0 I was at 6.1 - she's miffed !

Whilst finding out I can eat an Indian may be bad for my weight loss program, its lovely to see that I've got the the stage where I can eat something ridiculous and still not end up in serious trouble on the blood sugar front

Now I jut have to fast for a day to get rid of the excess calories !

At least a decent curry is good for intestinal transit times. Don't forget that extra kilo will be a combination of food still in the body and water. I've weighed myself daily for a long time and the difference from day to day can very surprising. I sometimes put the numbers into a spread sheet and then do a trend analysis, then get depressed because it's up. LOL

I am so pleased for you that you can eat Indian food without spiking! I remember 3 years ago when I had my first curry after diagnosis and found that I could tolerate it I was so happy! Indian food is one of the great pleasures in life. Enjoy your next one with a clear conscience.

Glad you enjoyed it bet it will not be the last time you have an Indian meal now you know you are ok with it. I think many of us could eat that and be ok as long as we stay off the rice nan bread and probably the poppadoms

Good news that you can eat a favourite meal without causing too many negative issues.

A word of caution. I have eaten the same meal 3 times over the previous 18 months in the same Indian Restaurant, and had completely different BG reactions every time, so vigilance is still necessary.

Glad you enjoyed the meal...

When on a " diet " I weight myself very single morning and record it oging back years. Thus I can measure how successful my attempts at losing weight have been over 25 years. what I can't do is tell anyone exactly why it went the other way - as of course that's when I avoid the scale!

I was a little surprised to find that I am still in ketosis despite the enormous quantity of food, so clearly no hidden sugars in that particular curry house !

I am starting to learn that how I react to food in any given meal, for me is a function of what I start with. Yesterday I had an average blood sugar of only 5.2 for the preceeding 24 hours and the graph was pretty much flat anda meal of avocado, tuna and mayonaise had not even been identifiable as food on my libre. That is what made me decide that now was the time to try. I'm guessing that for the next 24 hour I will probably find I spike more with new food as it takes a long while for everything to wash through the system . The trick has to be to try and make sure that you go into a food fest with a very healthy start point !

Lovely menu!

I adore curry, and we are lucky enough to have some nice ones within walking distance. I'm slowly building up a list of curries I tolerate very well. In fact, I am gradually discovering a whole range of different eateries and meals that are fine.

On my birthday, we went to a smoke shack kind of place, and I ate incredible amounts (of smoked sausage, belly pork and pulled pork) even including a few chips, a salad and a starter of sweet chilli halloumi and roasted red and yellow peppers - and managed not to rise above 7 at any point in the 7 hours I tracked things afterwards. Delighted! But a very rare treat.

Good for you ! Delighted for you that its not had too dramatic effect - I feel its really important to have things once in a while if you feel like you really crave it - for me its telling myself I cant have things that really challenges my resolve - I find my meter is such a powerful motivation when temptation knocks. We all have to devote so much effort in self managing this condition , which demands massive levels of self discipline, that I think that a very rare excursion off plan as a treat once in while does the spirit more good than the harm from a very short term/limited spike. Life is for living - you earned it with your incredible results achieved so far.
