Hi guys

Many of you probably know or have heard about this app called my fitness pal. In my previous thread I said I'm a newly diagnosed diabetic (probably why I'm so happy about this app ) . Getting to know how much carbs stuff has in it is brilliant for me, you can scan the barcode on foods from asda and tescos to lidl. It also lets you document what you've eaten ( especially if your recently diagnosed and waiting to see the dietitian like myself) it's free in the App Store. So if you haven't already check it out and hopefully it's as helpful for you as it is for me

If you're a new user of MyFitnessPal then it's worth checking the figures for any prepared foods you might eat. I've found quite a number that are wrong or misleading. For example, I can tolerate the Jalapeno Chicken wrap from Pret A Manger and there are at least three different versions on MyFitnessPal mainly due to the recipe changing over time. I looked at the Pret web site to confirm the nutrition values of the current recipe. The difference in carbs and calories is not insignificant.

I find it really useful and use it every day. I also add recipes to it then it works out the carbs. I also use DiaConnect as you can diarise your BG carbs etc.

I've lost 8lb using this app since I had my first high blood reading, pre my eventual diagnosis. Have however scared myself by how much carbs I eat so I know I need to research this to see where I can make changes for the better (my challenge). Might not be wholly accurate as depends on recipes etc but at least I have a good idea of where I am day to day
