Been trying for the last week to get my dosage of sitagliptin increased, finally after a couple of phone calls they have realised I should have been taking them for 3 weeks or so! Whilst talking to my pharmacy about my order as I requested more test strips as well. The answer I got was the surgery has refused you them!
So another phone call and the answer recieved, was, 'Sir, you have had your allotted 100test strips for this year' what! 'Sir, under new guidelines you are only allowed that quota'
Will you please get the doctor to phone me?
'Sir, thursday ok?

Anyone heard of this?

My recent talk to him about my condition made me realise I could be in for a tough time getting them as I have had the 'so you are not diabetic'?Conversation about staying on the register and the financial implications that entails!
I might have to phone my specialist and see what he can do.

I didn't realise the quota for T2s was only 100 per year! 2 tests a week?!? Ouch.
If you can afford it, maybe better to buy the Codefree meter and get the strips at 10p a pop (fiver for 50).
If not, prepare to lock horns with the NHS and do battle! We are your cheering section.

Thanks @Spiker, I am on a pension which barely covers my outgoings and have to work to have little things that make my life worth living!
If I don't get any joy, I will have to seriously discuss this with my consultant wether I test or not as I am doing well(I think) and feel ok. Also my wife uses them as she can't get any at all!
What a kerfuffle!

Just had my telephone consult with my GP.
It started as you would presume about T2 and monitor and strips. I stopped from giving me the lowdown on no needing to test as regular by informing him that I wasn't T2!
Oh yeah! No your not!
Sorry about that!
There isn't a category for you!
What strips are you using?

I asked him if he wanted a letter from my consultant?
No need!

I asked if he had any intention of changing meters for all diabetics,
It is still in discussion! But not yet!

Can't complain really, except he didn't read my notes before ringing!

The wife had a moan in the background about where hers are!

Ha!

Sorry about your dilemma Nosher. It is a very poor state of affairs. I was given an Accu-Chek Mobile meter with one cassette of 50 strips back in April. That's it! I am not allowed any more strips at all, ever. These cassettes cost £25 each, well out of the reach of many people. I now have a Codefree with the much cheaper strips. I have asked for a prescription, but no joy whatsoever.

I hope you persuade your consultant to sort this out for you.

It was sorted! He had no reason not to give me the strips!
I can order next time with my prescription.
