My hba1 is normal, but Antje's charts are still the limit of my dreams.

But the fact that you have gangrene with good control makes you think that good control is not enough.

If it’s not poor control that causes complications what is it just diabetes itself? Personally I don’t think that’s the case as there are plenty of people who don’t get gangrene who are diabetic.

Is it pleasant experience? I mean, maybe it's not a bed where you lie motionless for 4 hours while all your blood is distilled through the machine, but a place where there's a TV with a good series or a good company?

Injections for the rest of my life don't bother me, unlike long-term complications.

It’s a place which has people all in the same boat , a community for want of a better word , tvs at every bed you get tea/ coffee toast sandwiches , all the staff are excellent, some people sleep some read some watch tv . I even have done cross stitch , it does take it out of you but it has to be done unfortunately , one thing I will say is I know what my body is doing I get full blood checks every month I’ve had numerous scans ECGS and haven’t had to wait . I’ve seen numerous people have transplants conversely if seen people be there one day and passed away the next , but that’s the way life is . I just thankful I am able to lead a good life and have nothing but praise for the people who treat me

Most diabetics thankfully do not.
But you have had diabetes for a very long time, during times where 'good control' was pretty much impossible due to not knowing BG most of the time for lack of meters and sensors, and due to less effective insulin regimes. Those decades of less than ideal bg's must have taken a toll on your vessels and maybe nerves, and could have caused your feet to be less capable to heal.

@Zhnyaka and I are looking at this from the other side, and we may have a much better chance to avoid complications due to the access to modern technology and insulins.

But if I ever run into problems, diabetes related or not, I'll think of you and try to follow your example!

That sounds encouraging. I thought that when a person is connected to a dialysis machine, it's bad enough for him to do at least something, but if I can read books or watch TV series, it's not so bad. Maybe I'll decide to watch the Magnificent Century, if that happens.

And don't forget there are people who are not diabetic who get gangrene .

That sounds encouraging. I thought that when a person is connected to a dialysis machine, it's bad enough for him to do at least something, but if I can read books or watch TV series, it's not so bad. Maybe I'll decide to watch the Magnificent Century, if that happens.

How is your leg now?

It’s getting better every day , it’s still painful at times, but it’s only to be expected seeing the trauma it’s been through, just need to be patient. I’m really glad I had my leg off, such a good decision difference between before and after is like night and day

Not yet as it’s only just over two weeks after my surgery , they have to wait for the stitches to dissolve (2weeks) then they have to wait for swelling to reduce, so then they have to take a plaster cast of my stump. I am going for a casting next Thursday, then the new prosthetic can be made. I’m hoping it’ll not take too long to make . I’ve been practicing walking with a Zimmer frame and am finding it ok, I’m so looking forward to walking again , I’ll definitely get some pics done and pot them here .

Plaster cast? Why do you need it?

They make a plaster cast of your stump put resin type material around it let set then connect it to a pole and a false foot that then fits over your stump and viola a prosthetic , it’s a little bit more complicate than that I think

Hi not yet unfortunately my stump is too big (first time I’ve been told something is too hehehe) I’m in hospital. Have problems with. My fistula ( it’s a connection between an artery and a vein they did for my dialysis ) I got dehydrated in the recent weather making a decking ramp , I know I know with no legs but my brother helped me hump and carry stuff I just screwed the wood and cut it .hmm I just read that back sound awful lol
I’m fine being in hospital as long as they sort it out . Should get my leg cast soon then look out, get some hand controls for the car and I’ll be away here a pic of said ramp

Sure, get a leg amputated and go hobble around on your **** in the heat as soon as they release you from hospital to fix a deck while also having kidney disease to the point of needing dialysis, and having a dodgy fistula.
The deck looks great though, and I'm glad to hear you have such a good relationship with your brother.

I hope you're out of hospital soon so you can do more stupid things to tell us about.
But don't be too stupid, we want to enjoy your wisdom and stories a bit longer.

Well I’m in hospital as we speak , went to dialysis on Monday and they couldn’t use my fistula so I ended up in the main hospital in Glasgow, I had a scan this morning and there is a large blood clot in my fistula. They are going to try and remove it tomorrow so I’ll be in theatre tomorrow morning not really bothered. Just hope they get it cleared if they don’t have to get a temporary line put in my neck so that I can get dialysis. But at least I got my ramp finished LOL.
