Hi Folks

Sorry if someone has already mentioned this - I'm new here - but I just wanted to give this a mention in case it helps anyone.

For anyone with a smart phone - the MYFITNESSPAL app is BRILLIANT for helping you monitor what you are eating, your weight loss, nutritional info etc... I LOVE it! I've been using it on a daily basis, have lost a stone and a half using it, and it really is wonderful for keeping track of the calories you are taking in, what you burn off daily be it by a short walk, long walk, or whatever type of exercise you are doing, it shows how the exercise impacts your daily calories, you can log your weight, you can scan foods to get the info... it's wonderful and has REALLY REALLY helped me keep on track. I've found that it's very easy for calories to creep in here and there and stack up before you know it, but with this I find it sooooo easy to keep on track.

There is also an online version if you just want to use it on your laptop or whatever but I've not really played around with it as I use it on my phone. The phone app is ideal though because obviously you can carry it around, keep a track of everything all day - from a cup of tea to how much water you drink to an apple or whatever... and what I've also considered is that it's a GREAT little tool for keeping a daily diary of what you're eating and doing to help yourself. So when you go for your appointments etc... you can actually say "look... this is my progress" - or use it to ask for suggestions for your diet... there are loads of ways this little app can be helpful.

I do appreciate that not everyone may have a smartphone so do check it out online - I'm sure it will still be extremely helpful. I honestly cannot recommend it enough, I'd be lost without it and I know that it'll become a key tool in managing my diabetes.

I hope this is helpful to some of you. :D

Yes it is good. Couple of niggles though.

If you try to invite a friend there is the choice of Facebook or Email invitation. The Email one online 'appears' to send an invite but doesn't and the Android based one throws up an error. Strange erro for such a basic function. It appears that the site is trying to tempt people to use Facebook. So, if you don't like Facebook, then take care with this.

If you add something like plain rice from the database, then watch out for other 'assumed' ingredients. It may well add sodium for example, which may matter to you if you are tracking stuff other than just carbs, protein and fat. As I don't add salt to rice, I had to make my own recipe (guess what the ingredient was) which was quicker at the time than searching for rice with nothing added.

Apart from these two 'quirks', it is very useful.

I have been using mynetdiary. It too lets you input all you eat( if you have a smartphone you can use it to scan barcodes) and all your exercises. There is a diabetes version for the iPhone. This also lets yo record your glucose readings and any med you take. There is also provision to record cholesterol hba1c etc. There are graphs showing what ever you like: weight, waist, cholesterol ... I use it on both my iPhone and nexus7. Data is synched online. They have just come out with mynetdiary running which records your walking, running or cycling and synched this with your account. I have not yet tested this.
