Mysugr - quick question

Pretty close then I test pretty much on every meal before and at 1 and 2 hours some times just at two hours depending on how I feel and how motivated I am.

So do I, and sometimes also at 2.5hrs. I like the deviation calculation. 200 logs since 6th April, before meals and at least twice after almost every meal, plus fasting and bedtime. Deviation currently (14 days) 0.6, average 5.6. So pretty pleased with that.

What exactly is the deviation? My 14 day numbers are average 5.6 (snap!) but my deviation is 0.4. I thought it would be the difference between highest and lowest readings in that period, but I have a random 7.2 reading in there when I was stressed at work, and that doesn’t seem to have affected it.

How good are you at maths? :)

The deviation is the square root of the variance.
The variance is the average of the squared differences from the mean
The mean is the simple average of all the numbers

I can't find the website where I found what the deviation should ideally be, but obviously the lower the better. I have a vague recollection that it should be less than a third of the average, but could be wrong.

Thanks for this. I have an O Level in maths! :joyful:
I’ll just be content that my deviation is less than one third of my average (I can work that much out!) I’ll leave MySugr to work out the rest!

Better than mine 14 days 5.8 average 0.8 deviation. and 1 hyper that was after the fish and chips :)

Don't know if I dare admit my average and deviation now :( It is coming down and I'm only a month or so in. I just can't get those averages down my waking test is always high and whilst my daily variances are getting smaller, I'm still primarily amber or red in readings! Very frustrating!

It can be a long journey, so take heart and don't give up.

I have been doing low carb for 4 years, and during this time I have noticed that my average levels do not come down in a straight line. They tend to improve slightly then plateau. Then for no clear reason they notch down, then plateau, then notch down again, so they are like steps rather than a slope. Even after all this time, my levels still do this. My last step down was about a month ago. The trick is not to take a step back up again.
