I have had a copy of the letter my liver consultant sent to my GP, after our phone appointment 10 days ago.

It says my NAFLD fibrosis score is 1.128 I can't work out what that is based on. My last blood tests were over a year ago.

I googled but couldn't find a non technical explaination of how this figure is reached.

Ideas welcome. My cholesterol was cited as high (5.6) if that has a bearing on it.

Here is a calculator: https://nafldscore.com/index.php

It's just a predictor rather than a measurement.

< -1.455: predictor of absence of significant fibrosis (F0-F2 fibrosis)
≤ -1.455 to ≤ 0.675: indeterminate score
> 0.675: predictor of presence of significant fibrosis (F3-F4 fibrosis)

This calculator is a bit clearer, I think- https://www.mdcalc.com/nafld-non-alcoholic-fatty-liver-disease-fibrosis-score

Here is some information about interpreting the results:-

"In patients with an NAFLD fibrosis score above 0.676, the presence of advanced liver fibrosis can be diagnosed with high accuracy. In patients with an NAFLD fibrosis score below -1.455, advanced liver fibrosis can be excluded with high accuracy. Scores between -1.455 and 0.676 are considered “indeterminate.” " https://www.questdiagnostics.com/healthcare-professionals/clinical-education-center/faq/faq152

I wonder if my BMI and type 2 diabetes diagnosis is swaying the conclusion, like it does with the risk of heart disease and requiring statins.

You can get an idea by using the calculator to vary the BMI and diabetes diagnosis but keeping all other parameters the same.

I dont have any of the other parameters in order to be able to use the calculator. My surgery doesnt do online results. I am in Wales. My last full blood tests were March 2020, just before the first lockdown.

If I tick diabetic (glucose out of normal range) then I get a value similar to yours, even though the rest of my blood results are normal. If I untick diabetic as my blood sugars are normal, then I get a low predicted value. So that must mean that running your blood sugars above normal levels causes fatty liver? Something I didn't know.
