Yes - I do a form of intermittent fasting where I do 16/8, 18/6 or 20/4 throughout the week. It works really well for me doing two meals a day and I would hate to go back to 3 meals a day.

I tried hard to stick with lowering carbs and losing weight, got my Hba1c down from 63 to 52, then had a big birthday, followed by Christmas and realised I was in fact going backwards. In December 2018 I saw the info on Facebook about curalin , had a look at info online and decided to try the trial pack for a tenner. Frankly I was totally sceptical, yet slightly hopeful having read so many positive reviews. Within 2 days my fbg dropped from the low 10's, to the low 8's. I ordered the full pack, not cheap but worth it I feel, as I only take 4 a day and my fbg is now in the low 6's. After eating, rarely above 7. I really admire those who can be so strict with their diets, unfortunately I'm not one of them. My gp is astounded at the change in numbers and I really expect my next Hba1c to be in the 40's. I have tried a few supplements in recent years, I have tried metformin(never again!) nothing has had this effect on my blood sugar. I am totally chuffed.

Actually I felt exactly the same. However I have to stay ultra low carb as it is highly likely I had undiagnosed diabetes for at least 20 years and it has taken a toll on my pancreas and beta cells, so it is great that I can delay the day I start metformin. Or hopefully maybe my pancreas and beta cells will recover enough that keto on its own will give me good blood sugars. It may be that I am one of those people who take a very very long time to reverse the damage done by all the carbs - so in the meantime I will continue with the Curalin.

That's great that you are now in remission, you must be so thrilled and if you can cope with the diet plus help from the Curalin, sounds like a win win to me.

I came off insulin after doing low carb for 1 year 50g carbs max. BS started rising so switched to keto 20g max. This worked well for another year and was able to stay completely off insulin.

BS started rising again in December even though I have kept obsessively to under 20g carbs. My hba1c had actually already risen to 44 in September - which was a bit of a shock. The problem was that BS stayed high for at least 4 hours after meals and just were not dropping back to fasting quickly enough.

Have discussed this with my DN who says that, as well as keeping strictly to keto, I may need to add metformin in the future. I don't think of this as a failure but as a necessity to help me manage the diabetes. My only concern is that I have a track record of reacting badly to prescription drugs and over the counter meds and I also have a long history of IBS type symptoms which makes me a little wary of metformin. I can't even take over the counter hay fever meds and have to take herbal drops to control it.

So I did a search of the diabetes.co.uk site (not the forum) and came across an article about bitter melon. As it was on the actual site it gave me the confidence to try it. I then found the posts on the forum about curalin (which contains bitter melon) which had helped a couple of members (but not others) and as it also contained amla and turmeric which I was already taking I thought I would give it a go at the beginning of February.

Fasting BS suddenly dropped to 3.6 (much too low) and after meal BS hardly rose so had to cut down to 2 capsules a day. Today fasting 5.0 and 2 hours after breakfast 5.7 so am happy with those numbers. I don't think it would work for me without the keto as I believe that for someone like me keto (and exercise) are absolutely vital to keep me in remission. So hopefully these numbers will continue.

I do feel a little bit despondent though as I would really like keto to work wholly on it's own. Still - an hba1c of 44 on keto is a whole lot better than the 125 on a high carb diet that it was when first diagnosed. And of course - by staying with keto I will be doing my utmost best to keep insulin resistance to the minimum.
On bitter melon.

My wife introduced me to the vegetable which she chops up like a cucumber then cooks. I find it very bitter. :D

I bought some today, frozen, in Morrisons and cooked it and ate it with a pork cheek stew.

Are we talking about the same thing here I wonder?

Yes - it is exactly the same. I had no idea that you could buy it in Morrisons. Did it go well with the pork cheek stew. How do you find your blood sugar levels after you have eaten it?

I had only seen it as a fresh vegetable in Asian stores. Until today, where I saw it chopped up in the freezer section in Morrisons.

I do not have a meter so am not able to test for it.

I bought it because I saw somebody post about it on the forum a few weeks back and because my wife seems to like eating it.

I tried to drown it in butter and pepper but the bitterness is quite strong. :D
