If the drop in temperature, absence of sunshine and constant drizzle have depressed you, then hopefully these images taken a day or so ago may remind you of sunnier times.

Hopefully the sun will return in a few days .. meantime, I am going to wring out my sodden birding clothes.

The banded demoiselles are beautiful, aren't they. Such gorgeous colours.

Absolutely. There were loads flying around near a small lake I was at yesterday. In order to take this photo I had to stand chest high in nettles!! My wife thinks I am crazy ... I am beginning to think she might be right

@Welshman1952 you may be slightly crazy but you take some fantastic photos! But, and just to prove the crazy bit, I'm not sure what type of wildflower the last picture is!?!?! :snaphappy:

When .. this was a real close-up of a water lily (nuphar lutea). I shot it on my new Sigma macro lens from about 2 feet while speaker across a narrow (and rather rotten) wooden pontoon - told you I was crazy. I liked this one because of its extraordinary angle, making the plant look different.

They are more or less blind, so they jump on you and other things you own, like to live inside houses and chimneys and basements. They force you to turn on lights instead of doing things easily done in the dark. They have squishy bodies and you are liable to accidentally step on them. And, because they jump so high, they end up, say, jumping in and out of a purse or a shopping bag or in a car. We do, of course, cause our own shrieking noises, those are not their fault, and the primal fear part of it can probably be overcome but
Ahh, yes - I see the problem! I would be doing quite a lot of shrieking myself!

to be vanquished by soft hoppy things when I happily spent a year of childhood catching frogs on Guam at recess to stealthily put them in peoples' pockets unawares. They who seek to engender a screech, live to have their schreeches engendered.

By the way, the local wild bird food shop has emailed us the eastern US sightings of Ruby Throated Hummingbirds, about finished now as they are all the way up to Canada, and our new survey as we are on the lookout for the beloved Baltimore Orioles. Looking forward in expectation. Will sit on my porch, look out the glass and not move much....
:) I'd love to see some pictures if you can capture any....

Hi @Galja do you happen to know the make/ model of your camera? Some connect directly to you pc while others have a card you need to remove. If you can post the model type I am sure someone will walk you through the process

We have holidayed there many times over the past 25+ years - it suits us very well. Gorgeous scenery, quiet roads, no internet and only patchy mobile reception, and for me -trees!!! We look for the opposite in a holiday from most folks i.e. peace and extreme quiet. It's good to be back though, hope that all is well with you Debra?

Yes, all good, thanks, Anna - and I'm with you on the ideal holiday requirements!
I emerged (relatively) unscathed from my granddaughters' birthday softplay party during the week - a spectacularly horrendous experience, and one I don't plan to repeat any time soon! I've been working again this afternoon, in between fielding comments/statements/enquiries about Brexit, hence my late reply to your post.
The Tiny Terrorists are arriving shortly for tea, and I have two bubble-guns ready to surprise them with, so that promises to be a lot of fun!

No sign of the Grebe and chicks this morning, Mama Swan and cygnets were on the far side of the loch but these wee fellows came to say hello

And here's another William, this time a cheeky squirrel who had been having a drink from the bird bath

@13lizanne - lovely pictures Anna. Little Sparrow is cute - we never see any in our garden these days. Though we put bird seed and food out, but we tend to get Crows, Magpies and Pigeons - they probably scare off the little birds.
