Hello

I have been prediabetic for 5 years. Despite losing 2 stone I never managed to get below 43 HbA1c but with various tactics maintained at that.

In January this year I had a reading of 46. A bit scary but I put it down to post Christmas and work stress.

However I lost control over the period between Jan and Sept, gained around 9lbs, drank too much and didn't exercise as often. I had an HbA1c test and it was 49.

Around 3 weeks before the test I found support from a diabetes reversal network and was digesting and starting to put in to practice items in a regular newsletter from them.

The doctors told me to make an appointment with a diabetic nurse but also to have a second test to confirm the first.

That test scared me and with support from the network founder I committed to doing all I could to improve my number.

4 weeks after my first test my second test was 41.

The nurse had never seen such a drop and neither had her colleague.

It is still sinking in that technically I am not even prediabetic

My work will continue until my next test in March as I want that number lower and now know what to do.

I went from HbA1c of 91 to 47 in 80 days and at 6 months was down to 41 - I am the only person to do that in the GP practice but they still hesitate to recommend low carbing as it is a 'fad diet'.

It's ridiculous isn't it, as a quick way to lose weight and reduce blood sugar it just makes sense. It's so motivating when you see it working too.

That’s an amazing result! It really shows how much of a difference lifestyle changes can make when you stay consistent. Huge credit to you for not giving up and taking charge of your health. It must feel great to see all that effort paying off — definitely inspiring for anyone struggling to get their numbers down. Keep it up!
