What does 180mg/dl over 150 mean? We just recently sent in my son's log book and this is what the nurse sent back. My husband and I don't know what it means though...looking for help!

It is telling you that the base level for blood glucose level is 150, and so you test, take the reading and deduct 150 then you give 1 unit of insulin for each 180 higher than that - or hopefully, one quarter of a unit for each 45.

If the BG level is 240, that is 90 more than 150 so it recommends half a unit of insulin as the correction dose.

The way I read it is: They are showing the maths they used to make the table.

If reading is 150mg/dl then no correction dose to food dose

If reading is 195mg/dl 0.25 unit correction dose is added to food dose(150+45)

If reading is 240mg/dl 0.5 unit correction dose is added to food dose(150+90)

IMPORTANT:The table shows this working out without you needing to work this out yourself. Also;the numbers on the table are rounded to nearest unit
