Good day,

My girlfriend has type 1 diabetes, certain morning she will wake up with a low blood sugar and will be talking about everything and anything and not make sense, that i use to now. This morning though it was quite different as I was getting ready for work I heard a yelp not sure what it was I asked my son if it was our dog and he said no as I walk in the room i se my girlfriend sleeping on her stomach and then out of the blue she pushes herself up and lets out a scream and her face looked like she saw a ghost this happend 2-3 times and also look like she was grasping for air but I know she was not. It honestly terrified me cause I had never witness this once her blood suger slowly came back up she had no recollection of what happened. Was this some sort of seizures?

Hi @jayauger :)

Sorry to hear that your girlfriend (and you) had such a scary experience. Hypos can cause extreme emotional reactions, so it could well have been that.

Does she often have hypos at night?

It may/may not be diabetes related, did she check her bg levels after this episode this morning?

Either way I'd get her to go along to her Dr's as frequent night-time/waking hypo's needs to be addressed,

Her Blood sugar was at 2.4

no last night when she went to bed she was at 6.4

Her Blood sugar was at 2.4

Explains things.

Her bg dropped by 4mmol over-night and that's not good and is the reason why she's having frequent hypo's, if your girlfriend is not confident in adjusting her insulin herself then she needs to seek guidance from her diabetes care team. Good luck.

no last night when she went to bed she was at 6.4

So her blood sugar dropped overnight. She could try setting an alarm to test during the night to see when the drop starts. She should also talk to her DSN to,discuss whether her long acting/basal insulin needs adjusting - either the amount or the timing of it.

While she's waiting to do that and to get some help, perhaps she could go to bed slightly higher to,reduce the risk of hypos in the morning.

Hi,

Did she put herself right? Or did she need encouragement??
A Hypoglycaemic "seizure" looks more like an epileptic fit? But yeah at 2.4 she may have been tripping out... Some can waffle & talk esoteric when low, or regress "primeval."

Get her to sign up here? Simple solution... Then you can get to work! ;)
