moved to my Home-State, so happy to be back and have my much-loved 4 Seasons again. Did not like the almost constant, icy winds off the ocean, and lack of shopping options (groceries and other). Did a lot of shopping online and finally gave up on any clothes shopping ;)
I came here back when I was first diagnosed with T2 and somehow got more involved elsewhere. It finally dawned on me, after 4 years of low-carb, and doing great, I need to be around with many more folks that understand what it is to be a T2 diabetic. I'm very glad my prayers were answered by reminding me of this site I still had an account with.

My prayers came in the night, I've been up since 3a.m. Pst time here in US, after being woken up several times with bad foot-pain. Mostly the front half of my foot, and now I can't remember at all if it was right foot, left foot or both. My diet is still very good, nothing high carb at all, but there it was anyway, pain so bad I was grunting, groaning, and praying for it to stop. It probably only lasted, each time, a few seconds, but seemed liked longer you know, I know someone will know.

So I thought of this forum, and so hoping to get some feedback. I have one idea and that is I have gotten off my exercise routine which involve mostly walking, and some resistance bands. I moved on June 20th and I am 71 now. It took a lot out of me and I slacked off exercising so I'll try and get that started today again. I don't take any meds for my T2 and have done so good, so far, but the pains in my feet have scared me. Anyway, I hope to make contact with others who've dealt with this symptom, just to try and make sure what it's all about. I have a new doctor but they couldn't get me in until this month on the 20th, I feel fortunate it will be that soon as it was hard to find anyone taking new patients.

Thanks for any feedback, and hope to also maybe be here for others of my kind, Denise, Oregon USA

Welcome back to the forum, :)

its best to see what your doctor says when you see him, not everything is down to diabetes, my husband who isn’t diabetic suffers terrible night cramps if he doesn’t drink enough or has been on his feet a lot, he drinks an electrolyte drink with magnesium & potassium and also uses magnesium spray on his legs

But get it checked out by your doctor is the way to go there could be numerous reasons for it

Diet drinks - the artificial sweeteners taste vile.
Having to forswear foods I have loved all my life.
Trying to find low carb meals when eating out.
I have started taking a Magnesium supplement because of leg cramps and muscle stiffness.
Early days, but I think it is making a difference.

Congratulations on maintaining your numbers on diet only.
If you are eating low carbohydrate or keto it is suggested that additional salt might help.
From time to time I have a hot drink made from a stock cube.

Best not to make any significant changes until you have seen your Doctor.

Welcome back.

I get terrible cramp in my feet at night, if i run out of my Magnesium supplement. 2 to 3 days without, and the cramps come back. Restart taking them and immediately solved.

I'm also a regular magnesium supplement taker for foot and leg cramps. If I take them - I take Magnsium glycinate at night and citrate in the morning - my cramps stay away. If I forget or run out my cramps return. I also find my cramps are more likely if I am dehydrated or my feet get very cold but the magnesium supplementation has the biggest positive impact on me. I've been taking for seven years now and they also help me with sleep too.
You can also apply magnesium in a spray directly to the affected area or add magnesium Epsom salts to a bath or foot bath if you prefer not to take a pill. I started with a magnesium oil spray and it worked on the cramp but it stung and gave me a light rash so switched to capsules.

Mine aren't cramps, and it's not diabetic pain (the burning, needle like pain. Not a sharp pain, and not a normal ache, but I would describe it more like a severe sort of ache that raises me up out of bed.

I have taken mag citrate or glycinate that totally stopped any cramps I had in my feet.

Thanks everyone, I'll just wait for my doctor appt the 20th, if I even decide to go there for help.

Do you get any health checks For your diabetes? I get foot check I think its once a year, my reflexes and pulses are monitored with an electrical instrument. The nurse who did it few months ago had a job finding the pulse in the left Previous more experienced nurse had no trouble. I am a trained Reflexologist, Complementary therapy on the feet using specific pressured massage, have your heard of it? The body is mapped on the feet, so I would investigate where discomfort was, and map it to particular part/s of the body.
You can stimulate the nerves and blood by using a foot roller, bearing in mind you need not to have wounds.

I have had real discomfort in my right foot, now remember, the feet are made up of many bones, forgotten exactly how many, I did know These bones can become misaligned through slipping, twisting and worth checking A) with a doctor or B) a physio or body worker

Thanks so much, I've been on Magnesium citrate, and also Glycinate, but the citrate seems best for me. I do have a doc, and a new NP as well now. I moved back to my home-State mainly for better medical and dental care ;)

Welcome back.
Thank you so much :)

the magnesium, and also the salt helps I'm sure (electrolytes)! I also do a lot of walking, and started at a new gym after I moved on June 20 ;)
