Hi everyone
when i saw my gp on tuesday he said that i should eat 3 to 4 small meals a day!
he said to avoid bananas? he said that they are unhealthy! he also said to avoid any meat etc!
he said to eat youguts! i can't eat milk or youguts as i am allergic to milk!
i like to eat nuts and the odd small bag of crisps, some cheese!
what would be the best food to eat!

Hi sue
he said that meat would put my blood sugar up! i only eat chicken and the odd bit of beef or pork! he said that meat would cause me to be not able to control my sugar!
made me wonder why?, as i cook my own meat, i buy meat and cook the meat myself. as i dont trust the way shops cook meat!

Meat is protein so ,while it is true some of the protein will convert to glucose it is a very small amount! It's the carbs you need to look out for !

Everything bar water/diet drinks ( I think!) will put your blood sugar up. Meat will put it up by likely less than a yoghurt.

Meat is protein (watch the processed ****, full of sugar and other rubbish though as you say, you prepare your own) so eat away,
Cheese has few carbs in it though appreciate the dairy issues
Nuts are ok depending on the nuts - i favour macademias and brazil nuts
Eggs are fine

Some people can tolerate oat cakes, peanut butter, Burgen bread is best of the bunch,
Fruit wise - berries are my favourite
Lots veg - watch the roots (carrots, parsnips, potatoes)

In all, CARBOHYDRATES are what you need to pay regard to. Fast carbs - sugar, bread, sweets, are all obvious but all carbs turn to glucose in your blood

Re Fergus point - your GP is clearly an ***@@!. Bananas are healthy, they are full or potassium and good source of nutrients BUT they dont do good things to me and other diabetics have said the same

Do you test bg? its the best way to find out what does things to you

Hi everyone
thanks for your help!
i am thinking of seeing a new gp!
I eat a little cheese, i usually eat peanuts, pisatoes nuts, can never spell that word, cashew nuts, the nuts are just normal one nothing added!
i have a blood test machine that i bought the other day! but the gp said because i am not diagnoised as diabettic yet! that they will not give me a prescription for the test strips and lancets until i have been proven through the blood tests!
i have been testing my blood sugars they are typically been between 7.1 up to 9.8, but on tuesday my blood sugar was up to 17.9 and i had nothing at all that was taken at 9am! when i first got up!
i am drinking like a fish and i am also weeing alot! my vision is blurred alot of the time, but the gp said don't worry about it!

Watch out for cashew nuts, they are quite high in carbs as are peanuts. That's because they are not a true nut, macadamias are low in carbs.

Sandy, those are serious numbers. Get yourself to a better GP, or your local A&E as soon as.
Then cut out the breads, pastas, potatoes, rice and sugar from your diet. Don't hang about.

Hi fergus,
my fiancee says that i should see a new gp. they took lots of blood tests yesterday, but the gp says that the blood results won't be back until next tuesday or wensday!
i don't eat alot of bread, the odd jacket potatoe, i dont eat alot of rice or pasta!
i have been getting up and down most nights for a wee and a drink!
thing is i am now out of test sticks and lancets, as i only got 10 of each with the machine that i bought.
at the minute i don't have any way of checking my blood sugar at all! i am booked in to see a different gp next wensday that is the earliest appointment that they have!
i feel like i am alone out here as i feel the gp does not care at all! this is why i have decided to change my gp!

Hi Sandy,

You can buy test strips from any chemists. You just need to tell them the make and model of your test machine because every make takes a different kind of strip. They are not cheap at around £25 for 50 strips, but should see you through until you can find a doctor who is prepared to give you a prescription for them.

Just to reinforce what others have said - the GP you have seen is a complete idiot and should not be allowed to practice medicine. Your blood sugar levels not only show that you are diabetic, without any room for doubt, but are dangerously high! Follow Fergus' advice about cutting right back on sugar, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and cereals and you should be able to bring them back to safe levels quite quickly.

As long as you don't follow the advice given to you by your GP :)
(at least not as far as diabetes is concerned )
