There seems to be a couple of things at play here:
- your insulin does not seem to be as "powerful" as usual. As you suggest, this is not uncommon when you are battling against an illness. In addition, when our BG gets high, it is common to become insulin resistant and need more insulin. As our BG comes down, we can go back to our usual correction doses.
- you feel hypo at non hypo levels. Our bodies are incredibly clever at retraining. If they are at a high level for some time, they become familiar with this and start feeling "off" at anything lower. Therefore, it needs to be retrained to get used to the lower levels.
I would also be very concerned about ketones at the levels you are talking about. Are you able to test your ketones?
Ketones can make us feel very ill.
Could you talk to your diabetes team? They may be able to assist with some suggestions.
