X

There seems to be a couple of things at play here:
- your insulin does not seem to be as "powerful" as usual. As you suggest, this is not uncommon when you are battling against an illness. In addition, when our BG gets high, it is common to become insulin resistant and need more insulin. As our BG comes down, we can go back to our usual correction doses.
- you feel hypo at non hypo levels. Our bodies are incredibly clever at retraining. If they are at a high level for some time, they become familiar with this and start feeling "off" at anything lower. Therefore, it needs to be retrained to get used to the lower levels.

I would also be very concerned about ketones at the levels you are talking about. Are you able to test your ketones?
Ketones can make us feel very ill.

Could you talk to your diabetes team? They may be able to assist with some suggestions.

There could be many things that could be contributing......... but lets assume your basal insulin dose is right....

the correction you gave probably wasn't enough......at those high levels, you are a lot more resistant to insulin than normal.....

how much did you take to correct....?

have you had any dose adjustment training...?

Hello @Tailbone2910 Sorry to hear you're feeling unwell, it's a pain to deal with and getting insulin doses right. You would feel hypo when your levels come down as your body would of got used to running high but once you get your control back this feeling will pass.

Do you have any information about sick day rules and what to do ? Illness will push your BG levels high, so taking the right correction dose and testing for ketones too is really important, particularly if your running at 17mmol/l + I've just done a quick google search and found this which is really useful:

Hi @Tailbone2910,
With readings like 33 mmol/l YOU NEED TO get to your doctor PRONTO!
And at that level have you measured ketones ?
Have you altered your insulin dose to allow for the stress of this illness on your body and hence your BSLS.?
Speak to GP/Nurse/Clinic etc NOW and get advice and appointments.
No point in wasting time discussing the whys and wherefores. That can come later.
Let us know how you fare and Good luck !

Hey everyone thanks for replying and helping out, my bloods have always been at a pretty high level for some time it’s a nightmare I try so hard to keep them under control, I know how to do adjustments and corrections, I’ve been trying to get an appointment with my diabetes doctor to see if I could maybe get the pump or something to help get them under control but can’t get one until August, I’m feeling a lot better now thanks everyone
