Look up the Freshwell app…a good intro to low carb eating designed by a Gp with lots of recipes, about 12 for puds!

Forgive me for jumping in when I'm type one (no harm intended). I just wanted to say, the ONLY thing I've found that helps me is magnesium and chromium taken together. You can SOMETIMES get chromium from Holland and Barrett but I tend to get mine from amazon. I discovered Magnesium Berries by 7 seas ... oh my goodness, not only were they a delicious treat that satisfied my sugar cravings but they completely stopped any cravings (even for coffee) for FIVE YEARS. Then ... well, Jamie Oliver happened. I won't go into HOW he happened or what he did - suffice to say he had better hope I NEVER meet him or he will hear some things he doesn't want to. Basically they were discontinued and about 2 weeks after that (maybe 4 but ... close, you know?) I was on a train and had what I know now to be a hypo. I felt absolutely AWFUL. I flew into the nearest newsagent and bought a finger of fudge ... ate it in the queue. It was so disgusting (wasn't used to chocolate after 5 years, of course) that I had to have another to make sure it was REALLY that bad, not my imagination. That was it - I was hooked on chocolate again!

Having said that, while I've found one or two things that help, most of the time I'm CRAVING chocolate. I got it under control for a long time (NEVER cut it out to be honest) but I have a SMALL bar of my favourite treat once a week ... if I have to have TWO (if I'm comfort eating) then tough - no more for two weeks - kind of forces me to not eat too much. However, at the beginning of the year something happened that hurt me so badly. ... even now I'm still distraught - can't eat or sleep (to be honest, I no longer enjoy food anyway but that's another story) I eat for survival. Never to enjoy. I enjoy my breakfast sometimes and that's it! Anyway, when I got that news I fell apart and started comfort eating until it was out of control. In truth, I knew the answer didn't lie in a chocolate bar - it lies in the impossible. Chocolate was the only thing that stopped me crying ... until I went to see my diabetic nurse (I have two wonderful diabetic nurses and doctors. Better than my own GPs!). They suggested walking and they reminded me about Magnesium and Chromium. The last couple of weeks since doing a LOT of walking and taking magnesium and Chromium (both of which were in those delicious berries) my sugars have very much returned to target. When I see the posts that are guaranteed to break my heart (can't avoid them unless I want to stop supporting my friends and lose touch with them) I have learned to watch Disney videos or let the. tears come ... it's been enormously helpful. I know this is not what you need but I thought I'd chip in with the tip about the magnesium and chromium together (you can get ti from Holland and Barrett SOMETIMES but I get mine (and tart cherry juice - another helpful thing) from amazon.

Good luck! I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hello!

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes just a few days ago, and I'd like to ask some alternatives for sugary cravings. Could you give me some alternative recommendations when you're craving chocolate, cake or cookies please? I think for me, I really need a cookie alternative, as I really like them.

Many thanks!
Gia
Check out the sugar free Londoner website, great recipes with natural sugar alternatives such as erythritol, allulose, monkfruit

I keep a few berries in the fridge and have a couple of strawberries or raspberries which help a little. But I know what you mean it’s not easy x

This may sound a bit weird but when I get the cravings for some sort of snack especially in the afternoons I find that if I ignore the food but brush my teeth using a suitably minty toothpaste my cravings actually diminish. I have no idea the carb value of toothpaste but then I don't swallow it! Obviously this is no good when out and about but then my cravings usually haunt me when I am at home or work so the teeth brushing does the trick.
Having a clean fresh mouth for an hour or so sort of makes me not want to spoil the effect and so the urge to eat goes away. As I said before it is a bit weird but just by accident I have found it works for me. Despite this the trips to the dentist have not lessened but that's life.

What a great thing to try I will give this a go for sure as my problem is evenings when my sweet devil kicks in x

I'm in the same boat guys!

I want some healthy low-carb or keto snacks that aren't filled with **** ingredients!
So many out there are filled with sugar polyols and artificial sweeteners :(

Any idea where i can get snacks or treats that are ACTUALLY healthy?

Let me know if you find some because as yet, I have not found any. The only thing that works for me is a herbal tea, brush teeth or the thought of my bg being pants the following day and being thoroughly disappointed in myself lol

Hi! Sorry for the late reply!
I've been testing different 'keto' snacks over the past few weeks.
Its been a bit tough getting used to being diabetic, but I know we can beat type 2 with a better diet :)

I've discovered that most of these fancy low-carb snacks are absolutely loaded with artificial ingredients and fillers!

The companies that I like the most (so far) that aren't selling total **** are www.keto-co.com for bars and cookies (Amazing!).
I've also used weareheylo.com for bread and pizza bases, which were nice, but @shelley262 put me onto Liv Life, and that's great!

I'm thinking about using Huel to 'cover my bases' nutritionally, but I am not sure if its pure filler and marketing hype :)
