Hi everyone, I'm Joseph I'm a type 1 diabetes for almost 23 years. During my teenage days I use to eat alot of foods and dont control my diabetes. Then 4 years ago i started to feel sting and hotness in my foot ny doctor says its neuropathy. Then i get another complication called retinopathy. Last year my doctor says that my creatine and potassium are getting higher. I'm doing my best to control my eating habits. I want to try ketogenic diet but j have some foods that my doctor says i should stay away from like fruits and dairies.

Here are some of my questions in mind
1. Would you recommend ketogenic diet for me?( My weight is 38kg)
2. Can you help me find a meal plan?
3. Any tips on how to control my diabetes. I tried to do some home workout, i wanted to go the the gym but im afraid my creatine goes higher if I go

Please help.mr any suggestions would be great. Thanks everyone

Hi @Clefto.Plank
I think more info is needed. 38kg is a low weight for an adult.
What do your blood sugar numbers look like and what has been said about kidney function.
Where are you based?

Yes my weight is getting lower amd lower. On the Q1 of 2018 my weight is 40kg. My doctor says that I'm peeing my protein that's why.

My blood glucose ranges from 100 to 250 per day. I have a target of 160-180 before i sleep so in the morning i get around 100.

In a month I'm going to meet my nephrologist for the first time (i hope i can still have my kidneys). My doctor says that I have high creatine and she gave me sevelamer renvela to keep it from getting higher.

Hello @Clefto.Plank Can you advise what insulin regime your following and which insulins are you using, how often do you test your bg levels ?

Your night time target before is a bit high, do you have an issue with night time hypos ?

Also are you in the US ?

I use apidra for my when i eat heavy meals and lantus before going to bed.

I inject 16 units of lantus when i go to sleep and if my blood sugar is 160-180 in the morning i get around 100. If my blood sugar is less than 140 when i woke up in the morning i get 200

I live in the Philippines its in southeast Asia

Hi @Clefto.Plank how much apidra do you take for meals, so do you carb count and match your insulin ?

I would suggest reviewing your background insulin Lantus first, a simple way to check if your taking the right amount of lantus is to do some basal testing , getting your basal insulin set at t he right level is the foundation of good control:

You can control your type 1 with good insulin control, so learning as much about the insulins you are taking and being aware when to adjust and by how much will help you manage better.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

It sounds to me like you may need to have a look at your Lantus doses if you are dropping that much overnight. It’s job is to keep you at a steady level without food - that’s what the Apidra is for. It might be worth doing some “basal testing” to make sure your Lantus dose is right for you. Once you have that at the correct level, it’s much easier to manage your mealtime doses. It’s explained more thoroughly here, hope it helps.
