Hi all
I was diagnosed T2 about 8 years ago and put straight onto metformin and gliclazide the dosage was tried and tested for a while until the GP settled on 2000mg metformin and 120mg of gliclazide a day. All was going well BG was where it should be and I lost some weight which obviously helped. After a few years I met a new partner who is coincidently also T2 but maintained she had it under control through diet and took no meds but never tested herself!!!! Well being in a new relationship didn't help, taking each other out for meals or going out and grabbing a fast food meal on the way home wasn't good for either of us but we were enjoying ourselves.
Anyway, 3 years ago my partner was diagnosed with diabetic related cataracts on both eyes and is still awaiting the ops now due to other complications in her health meaning they won't operate yet. One problem we found out about late last year is that she also has renal failure due to the diabetes and she is going to need a transplant in the next 12 months.
I work full time and also now care for my partner so my diet is not as it should be but I need to get my head in focus and sort myself out otherwise I could be in same position as my partner in a few years time and then I will be no good to either of us.
Step 1 is tomorrow with blood tests and step 2 is an appointment with diabetes nurse which is also booked for 2 weeks time.
Recovery starts here……
