Just so you know, while you're supposed to use a new lancet every time... Quite a few of us re-use until they're blunt and pricking starts to hurt. I have a box of merry-coloured lancets that has lasted me these past 9 years. There's barely a dent in it. Maybe that helps? Ten lancets with regular testing due to Glic-use, would last me a month or so.
Thanks again. I know I'm probably overreacting but I'm very angry and frustrated right now. Still no communication from GP surgery online systemI hope you get proper help soon!

Not by name, I did some Googling (also found this forumHmm, if your ketones were high then did anyone tell you about diabetic ketoacidosis or DKA?
I get that, what annoys me is that they demanded I put everything aside in order to arrange a urine test as it was an emergency, then didn't bother forwarding the result to the diabetic nurse (it's a large practice with 6 or 7 surgeries, so the nurse was 3 miles away from the urine test) and she didn’t chase it up before going home. It's not helped my stress levels I can tell you.It is a medical emergency so I can see why you were being told you might need to go to A&E . Obviously I am not your doctor and I can't say whether that was what they were concerned with but it is something that is worth being aware of if you have both high blood sugar and high ketones.
For what it's worth, I change my lancets about 3 times a year, and I test about 3 times a day. Doesn't hurt for me. Not officially recommended but many of us do so.I did accidentally re-use the first lancet, until I read that I shouldn't! My first attempt at stabbing this morning was unsuccessful so I'm going through them rather quickly. I'll try using them at least twice from now on. Pain is the least of my problems at the moment.
Good news being, if you were in DKA, you wouldn't've been able to be irked about it now.Not by name, I did some Googling (also found this forum)

Sorry to stick my nose in here @debs248, but did you ever get on top of your dehydration problem? I just ask this as my partner has been taken into hospital before now with dehydration and been in for a couple of weeks trying to get on top of it! We are both type 2's and are always trying to get or keep on top of our blood glucose levels. I am currently on 2 Gliclazide, twice a day, but this doesn't help much! Good luck with yours! Not by name, I did some Googling (also found this forum)

Not completely, I'm OK during the day but still wake up too dehydrated to test first thing. It took 3 large mugs of tea today before I got enough blood.Sorry to stick my nose in here @debs248, but did you ever get on top of your dehydration problem?
Thank you and good luck to both of you too.Good luck with yours!
curious to how your blood pressure is ? does it perhaps sit a little on the low side? Not completely, I'm OK during the day but still wake up too dehydrated to test first thing. It took 3 large mugs of tea today before I got enough blood.

Always been on the low side of normal in the past. I may have low blood volume as a result of ME/ CFS but that's harder to measure.curious to how your blood pressure is ? does it perhaps sit a little on the low side?
You can buy lancets in the UK from Amazon or other outlets quite easily and cheaply. I buy Sinocare test strips as I use a Sinocare glucose monitor. The test strips cost around £10.00 for 100 and come complete with lancets so I don't need to buy those. With some other makes you do need to buy lancets separately but they are not expensive. As @debs248 was prescribed gliclazide by her GP, and this medication can cause hypos she will get test strips and lancets added to her prescription. If you are on medication that can cause hypos, the DVLA require a person to check blood levels before driving to make sure they are above 5.00mmol. (90 mg/dl). Also, if you are diabetic in UK prescriptions are free. so Debs doesn't need to pay for her medication including lancets. On the other hand, those of us who are diet controlled or on medication that does not cause hypos you are unlikely to be provided with a blood testing device. They are deemed unnecessary just to check blood levels. HCPs just rely on the annual HbA1c for information as to how well someone is doing. As many of us feel it is important and beneficial to understand what our blood sugars are doing daily, a lot of us self fund.strange. here in Kentucky, usa one can just buy the lancets off shelf. same with meters. walgreens have started making their own test strips. over the counter. $25. i was prescribed metformin and couldn't handle it. looked like i was drunk. felt horrible. so he switched me to glipizide. i'll take it tonight.
good luck on you and GOD BLESS ALL HERE.
