Nerve Pain - Gabapentin?

I asked my Dr. for Pregablin for my nerve problems. I twitch and jump every evening, cant sit still, weird feelings mostly in my legs but it can be full body. Driving me insane! I was told they dont like to prescribe that and she would give me Gabapentin instead. I have looked at the side effects and i really dont want to take them. Does anyone have experience with Gabapentin, good or bad? I have had Restless Leg Syndrom for 40 years but nothing like this, its horrific, like having a fit.

I am posting this a i am assuming the nerve problems have been heightened by Diabetes as it only the past few months it has reached this level.

A short course of Diazepam may assist in relaxing your spasm. Rather than the long full on Gabapentin that could ensue. But it would only be short as these can be highly addictive if taken for more than 4 weeks

Seems odd to prescribe that - they are a neuropathic pain blocker - my sister has been prescribed this for her fibromyalgia.

I was diagnosed with restless leg syndrome back in July and my neurologist put me on gabapintin 2 taken 3 times a day as well as clonazepam 2 to be taken just before bed .
I did find that I was having seizures more often for a while but not 100% sure if was from the meds or because of the pain things have eased a little but now when I do have my seizures they come on much stronger but less often my restless leg syndrome is not as bad now .
But the only other thing is I do suffer from short term memory loss which can be a side affect of the meds but again can't say if mine is related to the meds or not as still under going tests

Gabapentin is slow acting it chemically alters brain signals, it can make you feel foggy and disorientated. After a couple of days you start to feel "normal" i take it for pain, it helps but doesnt take it away completely

My partner was on gaberpentin and he said they make you feel like a zombie your not on this planet and cant stay awake. I tried pregabelin totally relaxed and slept like a baby but couldnt function properly the next day so would have to time it so you could funtion epecially if you work.

I've very recently been prescribed gabapentin for suspected nerve pain in my lower leg, or possibly a compressed nerve. I have to increase to three pills a day over a period of a week. My lower leg feels like it's burning. It's not so bad in the morning after I've taken a pill but the evening one isn't having much effect. I've not noticed any adverse side effects yet but it's early days for me.

@Tanis - I know I'm getting very repetitious on this point, but please have your Vitamin B12 levels checked. Some experts and B12 charities are stating there is an epidemic of deficiency. The consequences of long term Vitamin B12 deficiency can be irreversible nerve pain. Anyone who thinks they have diabetic neuropathy should be checked, especially if they've been taking metformin and/or acid blocking drugs which can block absorption.
