I was diagnosed T2 in March and tomorrow have my second clinic appt. having followed the nhs advice to get/ stay active and lose weight. I have lost two stone by cutting out manufactured sugar, limiting animal fats severely and using loads of veg, fruit, nuts and my favourite avocados. I thought I had it cracked, but having joined the forum am now nervous that I haven't limited carbohydrates enough. Am I likely to be disappointed tomorrow by my sugar and cjolesterol results from my blood test? I had hoped to get rid of all the bad news in one hit, but I'm not so sure now. Wish me luck!

Welcome to the forum @Computafarm :)

See what tomorrow brings, you may get a pleasant surprise. Good luck.

No point jumping the gun - wait and see what the results say in a few days time; and don't forget to let us know how you got on. Probably a lot better than you think :)

2 stone less is surely going to help... go with what works for you.
Going down!! :)

I too have followed (in the main) the 'mainstream' advice of lose weight, eat very healthily and good regular exercise .... Which I have done in spades. I have lost 4st in 3 months! (BMI now 26) My initial 'reading' was 97, 2 months later it was 53 and having another test next week when the PN is fully expecting that to improve also.
I haven't completely eradicated the 'dreaded 4 carbs' but have been more 'carb conscious' than I was (but that wasn't hard given what j used to consume!!).
So far so good for me ..... But then we are all different .
Good luck for tomorrow - hope all goes well.

Hi. As you have found, reducing sugar helps a lot. As sugar is just another carb, if you reduce all carbs you find that even better. Many of us would say not to cut back on fats as they help you feel full and are not the main cause of cholesterol deposits; thre liver is in control of that. A low-carb diet should help your cholesterol results but ignore the total and ensure you ask for the breakdown i.e. LDL, HDL and Trigs and compare the relevant ratios with good ones. This website has that info and so does your DN.

Thank you for that. Unfortunately didn't read your message until it was too late to quiz the nurse about the breakdown. I will do that next time. Ta. I am eating a lot of plant fats as I am really more concerned about the cholesterol actually, so bacon is going to stay a luxury.
Had my appointment today and am mighty pleased. Hba1c is down from 49 to 41, cholesterol down from 7.2 to 5.5. Dr still wants me on statins but have begged another 3 months to try to get below the magic 5. I am happy I don't have to limit carbs any more than I have already and must now try to reduce a little more and then stay on track forever. Phew!
