Neuropathy pains and Vitamin B12 - a cure for some?

I do have neuropathy and up to about 6 months ago I was having awful pains in my feet at night. I would wake up around 1.00am with feelings of being stabbed with a needle repeatedly, often this would happen every 20 seconds till around 4.00am. It was horrible and I was struggling to work. My GP prescribed Pregabolin which on a higher dose did help somewhat however I began to get uncomfortable side effects. While trawling through the internet I came across an article which said that low vitamin B12 could explain the neuropathy. I asked my doctor about it, as one of the many drugs I am on is Metformin which can cause malabsorbtion of B12 he tested me for this. The results cameback as 'a bit low'. I now take 3 tablets of Cyanocobalamin a day and although the Neuropathy ie the nubness hasn't gone the pain has! I mentioned this to one of the diabetes nurses who said " Really? That's good to know" So given that we often have to educate ourselves i thought I'd metion it here

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I was visiting my cousin in the Czech Repubblic shortly after i had mt stroke. The Czechs are great on natural medicines and my cusin advised to me try Brewers yeast tablets as they are believed to be good for nerve structure and function. I've made about a 95% recovery from the stroke over the last 9 years, but no longer take the yeast.
I'm not just rambling, just remembering that yeast is very rich in B vitamins.
Since neuropathy is nerve damage and if my cousin is right, B vitamins might help. May be even better to use yeast that purified Vit B, since the co-enzymes present are likely to make yeast more effective.

Soon after being daignosed with type 2 I had the feeling that needles were being pushed under my toe nails ,mostly at night I started to take a high dose B vit and the pain went away after a few days .This coincided with lowering my BGs but I still take the vits .I get mine from Holland and Barretts but I am sure other firms sell them :D Make sure they have high b 12

Someone who knows it all.
I was getting tingling in my hands and feet and thought perhaps it was psychosomatic as I hadn't had it before I was diagnosed 2 years ago. I am also on Metformin. I mentioned it to a friend of mine who is a haematologist and he suggested taking vit B12 which I have every day for the last 3 months. I don't have any tingling in my hands or feet now.
I don't know if it works for everyone but it is worth a try. :)

I might suggest this to my mum - she has terrible pain in her feet every night. Do the vitamins effect other medications? She is on metformin for diabetes, but other medication for depression and anxiety etc..

Her symptoms are constant pain - a burning sensation - made worse when she walks a lot. She says it feels like an elastic band is tied round her ankles...in the morning when she wakes up - they feel like blocks of ice.

Does that seem familar to others here? Any thoughts about what may help her would be really appreciated. She's been diabetic (diagnosed for 4 years).

Thanks, Lucy x
