just been told i have neuropathy its so hard to accept im struggling with the fact i brought this on myself i think ive caught it in the early stage so possibility to halt it getting worse=

You mustn't play the blame game. It is good that you know of the neuropathy so now you can tackle the workneeded to halt its progress. You can be proactive and you can be in control. Hugs.

I have had Neuropathy for years. Mine was brought on through Chemotherapy. Pain killers may help to alleviate some pain but you do need to ensure that you exercise regularly.
Try walking for 30 minutes a day but also ensure that you do not over to do it.

One gp told me there is a drug to stop it getting worse, is that true?

There was a thread a few months ago titled "Help in dealing with Neuropathy" which has a lot of information. In particular there is a great post by @Omnipod who had done a lot of research. Well worth a read.

See link in next post. This takes you to the thread. The post by omnnipod is on page 1.

Thanks. I've bookmarked it so I can read at my leisure. Thanks for that.
I've been keep meaning to develve deeper on past threads, just never got around to the longwinded searches.
I found one that helped me and @ally1 .
She may read this one too, not sure.
I may take us a while to read by looks of pg9 and previous posts in that thread.

A great help, so thankyou. :)

Don't blame yourself we did not give ourselves diabetes or neuropathy no one really knows why some people get it and others don't. Just concentrate now on doing what will help you and forget feeling guilty

I seem more susceptible to it when I'm in the 7.8-10.9mmol/l bracket. (It was thrush, constantly).
Higher I lose weight if longterm ketones and lower is weight loss healthily and perfect hba1c.
In middle I add weight and gain more health problems. Higher blood pressure etc. in the middle too.

I've seen 7.8mmol/l being a trigger. Does prediabetics reach 7.8mmol/l more frequently so hence why neuropathy prevalent?

Unfortunately, I do not think there is any single drug that will help everybody; this partly depends on the neuropathy symptoms.
For numbness in feet etc, good glucose control is probably the most important thing; it would be important to check that no other cause such as lack of vitamin B12 or D, not got underactive thyroid, and not excess alcohol. Evening primrose oil has been tried, but the studies are of poor quality so not sure how beneficial.
For the burning pain, I woud suggest the above. There are many agents that can help such as antidepressants (duloxetine, amitriptylline), epilepsy tablets (pregabalin, gabapentin, tegretol), strong pain killers (oxycontin, tapentadol) and capsaicin cream. But one often finds that a dose big enough to suppress all pain makes folk .
too sleepy.
It is not totally clear why some folk get neuropathy and some do not; but there are probably many factors which contribute to it.
Best wishes

Does anyone else suffer with itching I get it on the top of my arms I can't see anything there but it drives me mad
