Hi. What insulin regime are you on i.e. Basal/Bolus (aka MDI) or just mixed? T1s long-term will normally be on Basal/Bolus with a once-a-day insulin and meal-time insulin. If you have the meal-time (Rapid/Bolus) you would normally take this before each meal. Some people start on a fixed amount for each meal but longer-term you would be taught to adjust the insulin dose to match the meal-time carbs (carb-counting) and also take account of your sugars just before the meal. Having you dinner would be fine but do use the insulin in the way you have been instructed as I don't want to conflict with that advice.
