Greetings to all. I am a newby and feeling my way through this whole diabetic "thing". I have tried several sites already encountering the usual money-grabbers. I have also been confused by contradictory information, for example , porridge a good or bad breakfast? Hopefully your site will give me better guidance.

Still trying to come to terms with a prediabetic diagnosis. I consider myself fit . I am slightly underweight, out for a good four hours every day with an energetic dog, I prepare my own food, I eat little meat, perhaps chicken occasionally and fish. I do not drink pop and seldom eat sweets. most of my food intake comes in the form of carbohydrates. I thought I was getting it right.
I felt totally betrayed when i discovered this was not the case.

So many are betrayed by the constant bang bang bang of the healthy carbs message.
Carbs are the one food group we do not need. A Human can eat protein and fat and be fit and healthy.
I have had 5 years of low carb and feel about 20 years younger.
Some people can eat oats and not spike - I am not one of them. I avoid all grains and high carb foods these days, but I can find low carb vege mixes in the frozen section at Lidl, 95% cocoa solids chocolate, frozen berry mixes, seafood too - so I stock up about once every few months and then just get the fresh things on a regular basis.

That sums it up well!
I'd done years of "healthy eating" and exercise only to keep gaining weight.
To add insult to injury my much older, fatter, sicker sister then got type 2 which plunged me into the high risk category. "Oh it won't be me"I said, but it was already toolate and I was.

Galling isn't it?

But 33 months later my bg is under control, my weight seems to have settled at a happy number for me and I love eating the low carb foods I do

Welcome to the club no kne wants to join.
But once we're here we are very supportive :)

Must admit eating low carb means I have to think about what I’m eating and am now more creative with food and enjoying it more so there is an upside

Almost all of us were betrayed, but we have the help and guidance from all the lovely people here, so we can move on and spite the nay-sayers while improving our health no end. Although we who are diabetic will always be diabetic, we can guide you into lifestyle choices to minimise the life disruption, and many of us T2s eat ourselves into remission with a few easy diet changes, while many can cut down the meds in due course or even cut them out. It's an illness and is NOT our fault. Welcome.
