You seem to have grasped the basic method quite well, so don't put yourself down.
If prediabetic then a few changes might be all that is needed - just getting rid of the concept that eating lots of brown starchy food is healthy would be a good start.
I only eat twice a day. at around 12 hourly intervals as that is comfortable for me. That is as close as I get to fasting.
Weight doesn't seem to be the problem, weight loss not the solution, though when eating to keep blood glucose under control excess weight does seem to vanish away quite easily.
I eat swede rather than potatoes, but sometimes will go several weeks without buying one. Steak or a chop with stir fry is an easy option for any meal, though some seem to find it unusual for the first meal of the day. In high summer I often have fish and salad first thing as it seems less heating than meat and fried stuff.
Berries are quite low carb. I have mixtures of frozen berries as they are always available, and eat them with yoghurt or cream, or I make up a sugar free jelly, having added a couple of spoonfuls of pure gelatine to make a strong set, then I might add some yoghurt or cream and whisk it, then add frozen berries and it will set almost instantly. The fruit doesn't go all to mush held in the jelly and will last a couple of days in the fridge, but it is a handy way to make an instant dessert if the grandchildren arrive 'in passing' and they can be fed multiple sandwiches (also from the freezer) and lots of jelly

Thanks for that , another question is portage oat ok for breakfast?
i don’t eat a lot of maybe one slice a day

Porridge oats - the bigger oat ones are better for slower carbs absorption rather than the fine ones - ie quick instant porridge .

Everyone is different - for me my levels spike when I eat this, for some others it doesn't affect them . Experiment - try water or milk, when to eat it etc and test your levels then decide if its on of off your menu !
