New diagnosis but no GP help

Hi, I went to my GP about hair loss, I'd been feeling really poorly and exhausted for months but working hard so assumed it was that. The Dr told me my blood results as she read them for the first time, so I got the diagnosis as she was interpreting it. She said I had other problems too with my liver and something about protein and that being a sign of infection. Then she weighed me and told me if I lost weight the diabetes was reversible and to come back in a month. And that was it. No prescription and no real explanation, my hb1 ac was 91 according to the Dr. I'm really confused, if I'm diabetic don't I need medication and is it ok just to try to lose weight fast and go back in a month? My hair is still coming out in handfuls and I'm totally exhausted. It takes 2 weeks to get an appointment with my Dr so I thought I'd try this forum. Thanks in advance
Hi, it seems to be a diet high in carbs that causes non-alocholic fatty liver, not fats. Look at the Dietdoctor site, it's very good. I am of course an advocate for LCHF as it means I keep non-diabetic glucose levels without any medication and feel fine and full of energy. See if you think it could be something for you.

Have you had Hb and ferritin tested? Low iron is known to cause hair loss and fatigue. Also low thyroid hormones causes hair loss and fatigue. Have you had vitamin D and B12 checked?

Hi everything else was normal just my blood sugar, liver function and protein. No one has suggested the Atkins diet is there a reason for that or is it just out of fashion?

I'm not making excuses not to exercise just explaining why I stopped exercising so much, as I said, I can do 20 minutes and I will do.

I've looked up the Newcastle diet but Optifast seem to be an American company how are you guys getting the meal replacements in the UK?

The low-carb diet many

The low-carb diet many suggest on this forum is in many ways the same as the Atkins diet. You don't need to follow any specific 'branded' diet or buy special foods. Just keep the carbs down and have enough proteins and fat to keep you feeling full

I used real food, others use what they can get in supermarkets. There are so many threads on the subject. Just try searching for it

I felt low in energy when I was diagnosed. After a week of lower carbs, smaller portions, good fats and exercise every day my energy levels have skyrocketed. All the best x

Hi and welcome to the forum. Many people are able to control the condition through good diet alone. Many members do not agree with the nhs guidance on what is a healthy diet so it is likely to be a good thing you found the forum where those with experience can share what works for them. Everyone is different so you need to find what works for you. I am trying to reduce my carb intake and my blood sugar levels had reduced at my 3 months check so I have happily avoided medication so far. Have a good look around the site as it will give you an idea of what works for others, have a good read of Daisy's info, and ask any questions you like. I too struggle for time to exercise so am of the view that whatever I can do is better than nothing. It is also worth looking into getting your own meter so you know which foods affect you the most. Good luck
