New diagnosis

Thanks for the tag @Diakat .
Hi Louise and welcome to the forum. Have a read of the info that daisy1’s posts or you can find it in a link in my signature, just click on Newly Diagnosed: what you should know.
I have taken Metformin since I was diagnosed nearly two years ago. It only helps a little with blood sugar levels so you will need to modify your diet as well. There’s info on that in the link I mentioned above. With diet, Metformin and self monitoring of blood sugars I have had non diabetic levels for over 18 months now. I continue to take Metformin as it has other health benefits too, you can read about them here:
https://www.lifeextension.com/magazine/2001/9/report_metformin/Page-01
Some people get gastric side effects, I did for a short while, some people get them longer and have to swap to a slow release version or stop it altogether.
Any further questions, ask away.

Hello and welcome to the forum, @Louisesw50,

So sorry about your diagnosis. It is scary at first, I agree. However, the more you learn and the more control you gain, the better you will feel.

Lots of us T2s have been able to lower blood sugars to non-diabetic levels by changing the way we eat. Just have a read around the forum and fire away if you have any questions. People on this forum are friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable.

Hi and welcome,

I bet very few of us knew the first thing about diabetes when we were diagnosed, but we all do now because we have been active members on this forum, read all the threads, asked questions, learned things. It can be like being back at school - but much more rewarding.

There is nothing to be scared of. It can be controlled or even be put in remission with a little effort on your part and some help and support from this forum. Read round, also read the main website (available from the home page) because everything you need to know is there. Take some deep breaths, have a cup of tea and start reading. Do not believe all you read in the media - much of it is bunkum. Many of us look at our diagnosis as the kick up the bum we needed to start eating the right foods and living a fit and healthy life.

I've been diagnosed with type 2 and put onto metformin. It scares me as I dont know enough about it all.
It's an upsetting time. Hope you are ok.

You will find so much info on here. Friendliest of people. We all help each other. An amazing community.

I was diagnosed Dec 17. I found this site by googling reversing diabetes and put my diabetes (and symptoms) into remission within 7 months. So many have done exactly the same. Usually by going on a low carb diet.

Here is some more info that you will hopefully find helpful.

I've never felt healthier in all my adult life, fir me my diagnosis has been a blessing in disguise
