Every time I go to see my specialist Dr it's a new person. I never seem to end up seeing the same Dr twice. It seems that I would get better advice from them if they understood my background a bit more. Does anyone else have this issue. Or do I just smell bad. ;)

Hi @Felly. Not sure if this will help. I always got to see a different consultant whenever I had my check up, even though I knew the previous consultants I had seen were on duty. Really annoyed me for a few years, then as luck had it I was sat next to the check in desk, and was amazed to hear someone request to see a certain consultant. Next visit I gave it a try and sure enough I got to see consultant I wanted to see, only problem was I had to wait an extra half hour.

Insist on seeing a GP or nurse who has specific diabetes training. I'm lucky that I always see the same nurse at the surgery who had diabetes training so there is some continuity.

I agree that seeing the same doctor can help. For about ten years, every time I went to the hospital clinic I saw a new (and usually inexperienced) doctor. That is inexperienced with dealing with diabetes, the type that thinks we are all exactly the same. After the initial questions (Why aren't you on statins ? Why are you on this old-fashioned insulin ? ) and my answers - (Statins caused me short-term memory loss and got me made redundant. I don't get any warning symptoms of a hypo except when I am on animal insulin.) - they generally ran out of ideas and sat and stared at me in disbelief. I have only ever had sensible advice from a consultant who had seen me more than once. I have seen the same doctor at the last three or four hospital visits more recently, but don't find her helpful, so that's no improvement.

Unfortunately, never seeing the same doctor twice is a reflection of the state of the NHS I suspect. It's really frustrating to have to repeat the same explanations again and again -and a total waste of everyone's time, including your own. Then, of course, there's no time to deal with the question you really wanted to ask.

If the Dr is still there then specifically ask to see them when you attend the clinic, I do this when I attend the Ophthalmology Clinic as the Consultant knows my history, it works most times and the nurse will just add a note to your file to say who you wish to be seen by.

I don't see any doctors for my diabetes, but when I was having cancer treatment I had to see a consultant surgeon and also a consultant oncologist. There were always several registrars on duty as well as the chief consultant, but I always asked to see the consultant and was never refused.

lol...take another shower??? I doubt that is the reason, but it's like no one cares anymore....we are seeing a new endo dr in 2 wks.... our first one doesn't seem to get it....I have jeans older than she is like I probably posted before...I'm giving him TWICE the amt of lantus that she is prescribing...and his regular dr agrees with me..so much so, that we went to see a nephrologist at another hospital.... the receptionist recommended a new dr, that she has been seeing for 40 yrs! I want experience, not just someone out of med school...while his sugars have been running 500..to HI..(off the meter and over 600)... not only did I give him extra lantus, but gave him him extra novolog! I wake him, and make him test...just to make sure he's not dropping to fast...this morning???? his sugar was 234! I have everything listed..times, what he eats, etc etc....and I will show the new dr....if thiat doesn't work, I will take him to the emergency room...THEN they will have to figure things out.... thanx barry o. The nephr. dr said he may have a thyroid problem? he is down to 162 lbs...from 178 in just 4 months??? Something isn't right.

Registrars in the NHS rotate from post to post once every 4-12 months. Hence why you'll see a different person each time. It's just as disorienting for them as it is for us.
