"showing the luuuurve"
:)

Yep, I think ultimately time will tell what is used. If no-one uses 'creative', then we'd probably remove it... the addition of 'Informative' is useful we think... slightly more than a like in some respects?

I'm not particularly happy about "Disagree" - if someone does actually disagree with a post I feel it's more useful for them to post and explain why.

Robbity

In theory I would agree but as it has been my misfortune to be at the receiving end of a most unpleasant outburst when commenting on another forum, I have to reluctantly accept that a dislike button may be a gentler way of enabling us to express an opinion while hopefully sparing us the vitriol that can follow when we dare to challenge a comment or opinion

Also I don't really like a points system .. Feels like a race l to win a trophy ..or score points ..
Likes without points would be nice .. I feel ..
I agree, what is the purpose of points anyway?

What about an 'Unlike' - a different label for not agreeing with something, still contentious?

It would be like jumping from the frying pan into the fire ;)

Members could still take offence to receiving a ''Unlike'' just the same as they would a ''Disagree'' IMHO, why have either?

No real purpose .. Example I like posts to say hi or thank you , or just to acknowledge that someone posts ..like keeping in touch ..
But points , I don't see the point ....!!!

No points keeps us all equal ..

I like the 'like' icon, a hug and a wave would be nice too, could be beneficial for a quick, welcoming positive response. No to the disagree or dislike button/icon, far to negative. As for the points, who looks at the points, I don't know who has what points and I have no idea what points I have either.

What about a bunch of flowers that mean no hard feelings or not meant to offend so you could disagree but add the flowers

I think it would be useful for everyone (well, everyone who can be bothered) to consider how they currently deal with something they don't like and how they would deal with the same thing when a less positive emoticon is available.

Do we:

a - do nothing, holding our tongues for fear of offending?
b - do nothing because we think we'll get a hard time for raising our heads above the parapet to disagree/unlike or whatever
c - click the emoticon only
d - click the emoticon then back it up explaining one's stance?
e - don't bother with the emoticon, but explain your standpoint?

To be honest, right now there is no less positive emoticon available, so currently for a poster to raise their displeasure/discomfiture/ taking of offence or whatever they must commit virtual pen to paper. With an emoticon, I think there could be an increased expression of negative emotions, with or without comment, because it's easier to click a button and run/leave or however you view it than to attempt to make a civil and balanced argument. After all, there's always a danger that someone writing a comment might think it through.

Being Devil's Advocate, I have just run myself around the circular argument. Go me!

My view is that it is far worse to disagree with something without comment, than to disagree and explain why.

I have no intention of ever clicking 'disagree' without an explanation. Would consider it very rude. Like hiding behind a uniform (bad example, but hopefully it communicates my unease).

Imagine how crushing it would be to a nervous new poster if they say something inadvertently 'wrong' and get multiple 'dislikes'? No explanation. Just a series of casual swats?

If I feel strongly enough to react at all, I post with a comment. Open a dialogue. Explain. Argue. Present evidence. Everyone deserves that, even if their comments are inappropriate/trolling/absurd. I will try to continue to do that, for my own comfort.

Could not agree more.

Also "funny" is arguably irrelevant. "Like" should suffice. Not that it's going to happen given the constraints, but "dislike" must trigger a response requirement and if it doesn't, dump it as an option.

People who don't listen to others i.e. the 8 members of this forum I have put on ignore as they talk such utter **** all the time. This now includes the member who thinks they are a moderator.
This forum is becoming more and more like a facebook group everyday. Just close it down and let facebook tools do the work. Much better for all involved and will allow all the drama queens a much bigger audience.
