New forum improvements

It's just another way to help forum members engage with one another and perhaps help out people they wouldn't otherwise notice. I've said it so many times: if you want to have a private conversation with one or more people, do so in a PM.

This means members (i.e. anyone that is registered, and logged in) see it.
@Giverny can you please provide clarity so there is no confusion , when you say members are you including your FB members and Twitter ..

My view is that the profile posts are often so private it feels like a violation of privacy to read them. I don't think I will use neither the New Profile Post Tool nor profile posts. Never was much of a profile post friend anyway.

Does anybody at all see this particular feature as an improvement?

That's all fine and dandy,o_O but when you sign up to a new forum, best thing to do is to settle in, have a good look around and then ask a question if need be? as it would be seen by many others and then the newbie would be engaged with other members ? Yes,? and I am not talking about a private or a confidential message, as I have said many times too.

example, I have net curtains up at my front windows, I know many neighbours that walk past for years and years now, and the nets are there for a reason, to stop people from peering in too close, 'front of house', so I don't feel too exposed. up front.

Again I would like to say. Sometimes we need to act like a tree and bend a little....................:)

How many people have said to you @Giverny "yes, great, love it, just what the forum needed" against those here who are saying they don't want it?

You say you don't understand what the problem is, did you ask anyone beforehand? Are you really listening to them now?

If I want to 'engage' with a member or group of members I use the forum proper, not some ephemeral message board where anything sensible will fall off the bottom in a short while with all the other stuff. This place is for helping people, mostly that takes time and patience, you can't do that with a system that just panders to the 'instant gratification' society.

Who is more important here for the success of the forum, admin or the members?
