Type of diabetes
Type 2
G'day all,
i'm late 40's and still after 2 months of tests not sure which diabieties i actually have Lada or type 2 my Aci was think 13 point 6 or something my doctor said 100% lada then after more tests and no antibodies were found he decided i was actually a type 2 , but the educator several weeks later now thinks i'm actually type lada again ? vey confusing recent two months, i'm currently on metforum 500mg once a day and two other tablets for chlorestrol and blood pressure (blood pressure was normal at diagnosis)
Why i joined this forum , well in the last week i found it to be the most imformative and supportive online , I was given a meter and test twice a day
surprising thing was my change in eating, I now look at no carb no sugar in all foods, the worst part is i currently see any food with the slightest amount of carb or sugar as the enemy to me now, I understand this is not right thinking and will change as i learn and understand more about what i xan and can't eat. At the moment (early days still) I can't get my bg test down under 12 :( even if i skip lunch i'm still 12 plus or 13.4 etc but i feel grrrrrrrrr because it's not reducing fast enough hehehehe as a lot of you will understand at your first diagnosis but i hope with tome and inderstanding it will come down as there are many success stories on this forum :)
I don't see this as depressing but more like one of lifes challenges, i am aware and understand i now have this for life, but hey! I don't need to let it control my life fully so better to try control it or come at least come to a happy medium in some way between the diabieties and me.. how? well i have to find out how and this forum is very helpful in finding out how to deal with this in order to live as normal life as we can... if in the end i'm Lada so be it if type 2 so be it in a way both are similar at first but in the end become different , but either way any diabieties weather it's T1 or T2 or Lada or other types , it's still from what i see as a very very big big challenge in anyones life.

Hi @outback and welcome to the forum. Don't worry about not getting your bs down below 12 yet. It will come down if you are avoiding sugar and carbs, but does take time.
Some people can reduce their bs levels relatively quickly, others take longer. Our bodies are all different, but it seems like you are on the right track.

Hi. A negative GAD does not mean you don't have Late onset T1. The c-peptide test can be a more useful indicator as it shows whether your insulin level is very low and that is important to know as GAD antibodies are not the only cause of islet cell death. My GAD was negative but my c-peptide was quite low. If you are slim then T1 is more likely that T2 as you are having very high blood sugars. What medication are you on? It should probably be at least Gliclazide (Diamicron in the USA and elsewhere?) and any HBa1C that stays over 7.5% may need insulin if tablets fail. UK NICE Diabetes Guidelines provide good advice on this. Do ensure your HBa1C is rapidly moved below 8% thru the right low-carb diet together with the right medication including insulin if needed.

Hi
I was diagnosed at 32 year old after going to the doctor for a constant thirst. I was diagnosed with type 1 with a bg of 32.4 and after a fasting blood test I was still on a bg of 21. I had the GAD done and when it came back I was negative. I have been carb counting and treating with insulin. The diabetic nurse and consultant both agree I am type 1 bcz of the way I have reacted with the insulin.

My advise don't keep going on being scared of the carbs and avoiding them. I did at first and didn't help, I was having constant hypers. I now work to 30/40 carbs for breakfast and 50 or more (depending how hungry I am) for lunch and dinner. I have plenty of fruit and veg. Snack on roasted peanuts, corn crackers etc and after 2 weeks my bg numbers have stayed at a constant between 4.5 and 6.5. Waking it is 6.3 to 7.2
