I’m no stranger to the NHS which has been brilliant for me and looked after me incredibly well. Now I’m facing pre diabetes. I can control my diet but exercise nigh impossible (my shoulders shot through years of “pushing” myself around).
GP doesn’t want me in the drug that begins with M due to the 6 weekly biologic infusion I have every 6 weeks for my Crohn’s disease and the Crohn’s disease.
Hoping to advice and encouragement how to move forward from here. I am a positive outlook great grandad and firm believe in
Impossible means I’m possible
The Newcastle diet does have decent results and it works for some as a kick start and even gives some longer term benefits for some - but it’s not perfect. It was designed to mimic bariatric surgery in the obese and diabetic I understand. How you eat afterwards is vital. Consideration needs to be given to reduced metabolism as intake remains lower than pre diet for good. That may be fine if it was excessive but if weight loss and particularly visceral weight loss is minimally required is this “starvation” method optimal? It’s a tad more problematic for food as I have what are called strictures (5 of) where the “small Bowel” joins the “large Bowel”. The diet I’m on would never be met by a vegetarian type as the part where they join is where all the B12 is extracted from but the marvels of modern medicine gives me 3 monthly B12 injections.
I also have a daily drink of Fresubin 2K Cal to make up for all the other vitamins etc that my diet doesn’t include.
I am very wary of any ‘diets” proposed by others as I implicitly trust my consultant GI guy (Mr Subhani, my heroand the head dietician. For example most “Crohnies” are told to have a high fibre diet, but for me it would mean a dash to hospital for 4-5 days within a couple of hours. So I need to read in here as much as I can and then ask my consultant & dietician if that would help.
Btw I’m reading a book called “life without diabetes” by Professor Roy Taylor, seems great except for 8 weeks you have 600 calories a day and I bottle of fresubin has 2000calories, you see the balancing problem?
Having a incredibly supportive wife of 52 years, great family and my faith, really do help.
I so appreciate your comments, it’s a great encouragement, thank you everyone of you.
Hope I can contribute something, you guys seem really knowledgeable and knowledge really is power.
King regards & many thanks again, john
I was starting to understand and wanted to know more. I was starting to realise just how very, very fortunate I am with just having T2.I think to suggest a diet based cure or any "cure" to someone with crohns or any disease without knowing their full details is scary & wrong.
Oh guy! This is so sad. I wanted to know about you. Within your Profile picture are Japanese Bowls. As a maker of Ceramics, and a complete Sung Tea Bowl (Korean) nutter, I was hoping you’d stay around longer. Also, your humour, about being your height, when you’d be unfolded, made me warm to you. Jomar you’re a stout and strong fellow in my eyes, if you can see your way to returning, I for one would welcome you back. As to giving you advice, I’d be taking it under your advisement. I’m betting that there are a few old hands here with wrinkled, furrowed brows considering what they could add. Look, my way through Diabetes T2 has been scary-mad and at the same time frustratingModerator: please remove my account & details, thank you. You are free to delete this post if you wish.
