new lower fasting levels

The last five fasting tests have produced figures in the 3s.

I'm diet only and since the first couple of weeks back in July, there has only been a 3 point something about once a month, with all other fasting results in the 4s, never higher. This week is turning out differently. I feel fine, meals at same times, same range of food. Just wondered if it's "okay" - whatever "okay" means in general! There haven't been any high 5s (lol) during the day in the last few weeks either - maybe related? Is my body perhaps doing some further adjusting or is this normal at this stage? I know we don't diagnose on here but this isn't really diagnosis, just advice please - and thanks.

On diet only, you are not in much danger of hypos and your numbers sound pretty non-diabetic to me. Have you by any chance lost weight. that would make a difference.
Carry on, It all looks fine

As stated elswhere many times, anything below 4 mmol/l is considered to be hypoglycaemic. Not a good place to be whether you feel good or not. It is too low. You are a diabetic and need to keep the numbers up a little higher for your health's sake.

There are many things which happen at those levels which you probably wouldn't notice, however others around you no doubt would. When I drop down into the 'zone' my girlfriend is the first to notice what is happening, subtle changes in my behaviour, change in attitude etc, irritability, confusion. You would probably be the last to notice !

Anybody, even a non Diabetic can suffer from hypoglycaemia. FACT.

Thank you, both of you. It hasn't been happening in the day, just when I get up. So I'll keep an eye on it and take action accordingly. I haven't lost any weight for two weeks - still at eight and a half stone. Everything crossed – it would be a pity to expire before opening the CDs my kids have bought me!

Hi DG,

You sound to be doing just fine with your blood glucose levels where other diabetics would love their readings to be. Keep doing whatever it is that you are doing.

As regards when you find yourself going low my GP simply advises that I take a bite to eat.

Best wishes - John

I do, John. I promptly disappear to the kitchen and grab two cups of tea to take back to bed while I start work (oh the joys of freelancing!).
"What I do" is just starting to be a tad boring, actually (tho I'm not that interested in food, so mostly I never give it a thought once it's eaten). So I went out for the Tesco shop today and threw in some blueberries. Haven't a clue what to do with them! But that's my experiment for this weekend. I promised myself I'd get sorted first and start widening the possibilities at Christmas, so here we are.

Hi again DG........and long may your blood glucose levels stay boring!

I've never been very interested in food either. I've always simply eaten whatever was put in front of me. Then a few minutes later, I'd be asking the wife what I'd had for dinner - i.e. "Was it chicken or beef?" - it used to drive her crazy!

These days, I've a better idea because I'm more involved in the decisions about what we were going to eat. Also, I keep a detailed food diary so my wife writes everything down for me and I transpose it into my diary. That saves me having to ask her what we had for dinner!

Good luck - John

those blueberries
Try them in Natural Greek yogurt, or in a milk/yogurt smoothie( but watch the BG)
Or just eat them from the box.

Blueberries are scrummy just the way they are.

We grow them ourselves and when we have a good harvest we pick, wash and freeze them just as they are and on a hot day  I eat them straight from the freezer and (by the handful) they are better than any ice lolly. 8)

Experiment over. And successful.

Pre-meal: 4.7.
I then ate haddock, cooked celery (love it) and mushrooms followed by the usual 100mls red wine AND blueberries neat (sorry Hana, hadn't bought Greek yogurt or smoothies earlier, and we're 30 miles from the shop). I weighed 20g of berries which I reckoned was about 1.5g carb. And then swigged two mugs of coffee (husband out, so drank his too!). One hour later: 5.9 (quake...)
Two hours: 4.5 (phew). Mission accomplished. I shall devour berries from now on.
Thanks all.

Blueberries with soured cream (and before being diagnosed T2) with a liberal sprinkle of brown sugar....yum!!
