Hi went to see doc yesterday an they want to put me on insulin im currently taking 2 metformin an 4 gliclazide a day an im worried as they want me to stay on meds while being on insulin has anyone else done this???
The metformin is so your body can use the insulin better as you are insulin resistant.
The second one persuades the pancreas to produce more insulin. (I am fairly certain but stand to be corrected)
My mum is t2 and on insulin and both of the others you mention. I had no idea what all the meds did until I was diagnosed myself. Luckily, I'm only on metformin and managing mainly through diet.
Out of interest, what were their reasons for starting you on insulin? I presume your body just isn't making enough of it's own?
Hi. It is quite unusual to be on both insulin and Gliclazide as they achieve the same thing. When I started insulin I reminded my DN that the Glic should be stopped and she agreed. Do query being on both. Taking Metformin with insulin is quite common and I've seen studies that show it does help a bit. I'm on both.
Are you seeing a specialist at a diabetic clinic? Most GPs are pretty clueless about anything but the most vanilla T2 - as MODY is pretty rare they may not be giving you the best advice about it....going to contact my GP before starting the insulin as i really dont want a hypo only ever had one an it was scarey enough
