had a rough 2 days after teeth out, not eaten much, did work (taxi) yesterday, just tested at 6.8

I cant ride a normal exercise bike (hurts my rear and back), or use the treadmill (feet) but ive found salvation with the recumbent bike, 100 minutes flat out with lever 3 resistance and some fast tunes on the headphones and im lathered (George Thorogood and Jerry lee lewis i thank you)

i do a small amount of machine work (weights) and a 15 minute sauna too
Hi Jack
I have the same sort of sensation in my feet. Podiatrist says my blood flow and nerves are fine. there is nothing wrong with my feet. I don't understand where the pain comes from in that case. I take pretty strong painkillers and have had hypnotherapy for pain management. so if everything is fine, why do I need all that.
Do you find that if you tell your doctor there is something wrong they just say it's diabetes and you cant do anything about it. Diabetes seems like an excuse not to try to find a solution.
But I digress.
I ended up stopping the gym because it hurt too much.

its not quite "pain", more discomfort, i honestly thought it was down to my trainers not being well cushioned...

ive come across gel inserts but the (supposed) good ones are £30 a pair

and yes, the doctor likes to blame everything from headaches, erectile failures and bad feet on diabetes

that's probably a good thing. you are right about the cobblestones though. I get that sensation aswell. I also sometimes feel like I have deep calluses forming or something stuck in there, in the pads just behind my toes.
sometimes I feel like shaking them and saying can you please take your blinkers off

The usual answer to everything is "when your sugar is down or you lose weight it will get better"

wish id got that in writing

ive a 49" chest (not much fat up there) and im 6ft tall, the BMi says i should be 5 stone lighter!

The gym has a "vibroplate" which seems (maybe) to be helping the foot problem

(no, my rear doesnt look like hers)

5 Stone is so much. are you having trouble dropping it?

Hi @Jackthehat and @kathyo

I'm listening to you talk about your feet, and I'm wondering about vit b12 deficiency.

It is surprisingly common, has symptoms similar to neuropathy, and most doctors haven't got a clue because they were taught in med school that it is v rare and only appears with pernicious anaemia - which has now been shown as factually incorrect.

Have a google. And a youtube. for vit b12 deficiency.

Of course, this is only a suggestion, and I may be completely wrong. But worth having a look, eh?

Thanks Brunneria I'll have a look. am willing to try anything at this stage. thanks again :)

ref weight loss, i have in the last 2 weeks switched form 100% "cardio" type exercise (bike/treadmill/rowing) to 50/50 cardio and the machines (basically like weights) doing arms/legs and the weight loss has stopped, presumably because im now turning some fat to muscle instead of burning it

BTW, the suggested BMi off the scales for me (6ft tall) shows the maximum "ideal" weight as 13st but ive got a 48" chest, and theres no fat on that, 13st is simply not achievable

"THEY" say that my ideal weight is 64kg. not really sure about stones. I am currently 58Kg and still have love handles and a fat tummy. (definitely diabetic weight). I wish I could just liposuction around my organs and maybe be done with diabetes.

what kind of rice? brown rice should be ok. not white at all
have a look at the 7 day meal plan on the uk diabetes site. it will give you some ideas

OK some investigation shows that I am 58 Kg, 127.868 pounds & 9.13344 Stone

Brown rice (any rice) sends my blood sugar up very high. I can have about a tablespoon at a time before I get a ridiculous spike.

I'm afraid I wouldn't follow ANY of the so-called diabetic diets unless I tested every meal using my blood glucose meter. Far too many of them promote the idea that carbs are ok if they are brown, and that carbs should be the basis of the diet.

Many of us on this forum have learned, to our cost, that diets like that make our diabetes get worse.

Hi, ive been T2 since 1998 with BS (daily) in the 7 to 10 range but recent it has risen, and on the 12 week "long term" blood test it has gon up from 7 to 8, so the clinic warned me insulin could be looming, im a taxi driver and my badge could be lost if i went on Insulin SO......change of diet and hit the gym 4 times a week (soon to be 3 gym + 3 swims) but i have a problem with my feet, specifically the underside........it feels like im always walking on cobblestones, making some exercise difficult (treadmills for one), my clinic said this would fade if my BS and weight fell but ive lost about 10lb in 5 weeks with no change to my feet, any ideas?...

I didnt have this problem till about 2 years ago

Im 60 in feb, 6ft tall and 18st 2lb now

cheers

I'm a new member of this forum and I've been reading around looking at posts from other people who have diabetic foot pain.

I was surprised that it seems that no one here has been prescribed gabapentin. This drug was originally for epilepsy, but it was found to relieve the diabetic foot pain. It doesn;t have any lasting side effects and works extremely well. I noticed a few moments of dizziness right after taking the medicine the first couple of days, but not again all year. I just this week went back for my yearly checkup and asked my doctor to increase my dosage. I had been prescribed 300mg twice a day, and had a pain attack that took an extra pill to conquer. A little thinking on my part made me realize that I had been eatinig a lot of egg noodles, and that had caused my glucose levels to get high.

I don't recommend you get much higher dosage than the 300mg. The doctor gave me a prescription by accident, changing the dosage to 800mg. They made me really dizzy and kind of loopy, so I went back to my original 300mg, but with 3 a day. I only take the 2 a day I used to, and keep the 3rd for cases when I get too much glucose in my system which causes the foot pain.

I urge you to talk to your doctor about Gabapentin. There is another drug that you might see advertized on TV. It is a statin and has horiffic side effects. Gabapentin is much safer.

You're right. I've been finding that the fewer carbs I eat, the better my glucose levels. With diabetic foot pain, I get an unpleasant painful side effect about 3 hours after eating a lot of carbs. It is so bad that it forces me to stop eating whatever it was that set the pains off. Usually carbs are the culprit.
