New Meter, different numbers?

Hi... I just got a new meter, one of the ones that this site gives away (Bayer)... I thought I would test it against the one I usually use(bog standard Boots brand meter). The boots meter gave me a reading of 13.4, the new one gave me a reading of 11.7. Not sure which one to trust! Any ideas how a meter can be calibrated or the output validated?

Cheers,

Andrew

You can send for a test solution from the manufacturers so can verify the meter readings

You can do this but it will only tell you that the monitor is correct within certain boundaries. I used the test solution on mine yesterday. First reating 8.5, 2 mins later 7.4. Same solution, both passed the test although quite a difference in results. Some good advice I received was next time you visit hospital ( as long as not too far in the future ) , take your monitor with you and compare with hospital result as theirs is much more accurate.
