Hi all,
I'm Sam. I have T1 and today received a new meter in the post. It's a Contour next one.
It's snazzy and looks lots better than my agamatrix!
My question is this, will my GP just prescribe me the strips and lancets? Or will I have to cry a bit (just kidding) I've always just used what I'm given and never thought to look for new but saw a trial for the Contour and signed up anyway. Now I would like to keep it ;)
Thanks for any help x

It seems that each GP has their own foibles - some will respect our understanding of our condition and our needs and prescribe the strips that we feel are best; some will be watching their pennies and "encourage" you to use the meter with the cheapest strips unless you plead with them (or cry :-) )
If I was in your position, I would contact your GP and request the strips for the Contour to replace your Agamatrix strips and explain why the Contour will help you manage your diabetes better. Maybe the screen is easier to read, it stores more history, it's easier to upload the data for analysis, it's smaller/bigger/lighter/...
If your GP is difficult to convince, it may be worthwhile enlisting the support of your diabetes team: my diabetes nurse is wonderful for things like this.

Good luck ... and sorry that you may need it

Hi Sam,

Agree with @helensaramay - you need to speak to your DSN first as they will write to your GP requesting strips for this meter, GP's are usually governed by budgets so will try to keep you on the cheapest strips, however your DSN will understand the benefits of using this meter vs your old one and will encourage use of this if it ultimately helps you manage your control better, so this is the best way to get access to the strips.
