My daughter has started her first day eating what she wants with this new basal bolus regime...god..and now we are at double figures.
10u of lantus given this morning 5 units of novorapid given at breakfast and lunch and sugars still climbing...im sweating here
last bsl before lunch was 22mmol.
looks like the lantus either.isnt enough or hasnt kicked in ?? would i be right in saying that?
supposed to be ringing my diabetes lady in an hr for her to give me advice as to.what to do next.
I asked them yesterday if this occured what was the plan? They are always reluctant to tell like they titrate their informatiom what for???..they go home at 5pm but i cant go anywhere the problem is still there...
if she continues to run that high into the night what are your suggestions...no sleep again guessing ....:(

Just an add here her doses were calculated conservatively to begin with as the specialist knew she was unable to tell me if and when she is having a hypo...but surely her sugars cant stay that high and i worry about ketones too..
The diabetic educator always says we need to wait and see ...yes i agree to an extent in order for accurate data to be obtained but if her bsls are flying around im not wanting to wait...sigh

i rang my diabetic nurse asking for correction doses...yes she gave me a myriad of instructions..god all so foggy
Seems as if the dose of lantus was too little...im guessing...im worried about tonights bsls though...she said if they are above 15mmols before bed give 2units of novorapid ..if after four hours they are still high give another 2units.
shes not eating while asleep lantus even a little on board through night she can drop quite a lot so im scared to give it tbh...

oh my liz i wish i.could say better.
had to correct with 4 units of novorapid as my daughter climbed to 22.3mmols post lunch. Then i gave her the dinner bolus of 6units and 2hrs after dinner shes dropped 10 points and is at 4mmol..
i treat her for the mild hypo and am wondering what the variables could be for the huge drop?
I had avoided hypos on the mixed insulin regime albeit a few but these occurences dont boost my confidence any infact it does the total opposite...i know i.wont sleep tonight because ill be worried how she handles the lantus and try to foresee any huge drops in her bsls.
ill be up testing her hrly if i have too....this stuff is way too challenging :(
